You'll balance people leadership, technical direction, and delivery while partnering across the organization to develop reusable services and capabilities that support multiple products and business verticals. You'll own a forward-looking platform roadmap focused on scalability, reliability, developer experience, and operational excellence while developing a high-performing engineering team.
What You'll Do
- Lead all aspects of day-to-day operations for an Engineering team, including planning, prioritization, execution, delivery, and team rituals.
- Build and develop a high-performing team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development.
- Own your team’s platform roadmap and priorities, balancing stakeholder commitments with long-term scalability, reliability, extensibility, and developer experience.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across DraftKings to understand product strategies, integration needs, technical constraints, and future growth plans.
- Identify shared needs and translate them into reusable services, APIs, tools, and self-service capabilities that accelerate delivery and reduce duplicated engineering effort.
- Facilitate architectural discussions and design sessions, guiding decisions around service contracts, platform standards, integrations, migrations, and technical tradeoffs.
- Serve as the technical point of accountability for your team and dive into code reviews, architecture decisions, or complex troubleshooting when needed.
- Promote engineering and operational excellence across the platform, championing reliability, performance, scalability, observability, security, documentation, automation, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or any suitable combination of education, experience, and training.
- At least 2 years of experience managing software engineering teams, driving technical excellence and supporting individual development.
- Experience leading platform, infrastructure, shared-services, or developer-enablement teams that support multiple products or business areas.
- A proven track record of developing technical roadmaps that balance stakeholder needs with scalability, reliability, extensibility, and developer experience.
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with experience aligning stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and influencing across teams.
- Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language, such as C# or Java, with hands-on experience using modern .NET technologies.
- Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, message brokers such as Kafka, and cloud infrastructure and services, especially within AWS.
- Experience operating production systems, including observability, incident response, capacity planning, cost optimization, and continuous reliability improvements.
