Full description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer, Market Data Platform to join a mission-critical client project, acting as a bridge between complex business requirements and scalable technical execution. In this role, you will work across a large family of internally developed software solutions supporting market data ingestion, transformation, validation, documentation, and serving. You will operate across Java services, SQL Server–backed workflows, file-based processing, and vendor integrations while helping modernize the platform for the future.

About First Factory

We are a software development company with over two decades of experience, boasting a dynamic team of 175+ professionals actively engaged in diverse projects across various industries. We invite you to join us on this journey as we thrive and embrace fresh challenges.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead development across Java services, libraries, utilities, and web applications supporting market data systems.
  • Drive improvements to data ingestion, transformation, validation, and serving workflows across Linux file-system-driven pipelines.
  • Work with SQL Server schemas, data structures, and operational databases to manage batch jobs, loaders, updaters, and scheduler-driven workflows.
  • Integrate third-party market data vendor feeds (including Refinitiv, Bloomberg, Haver, S&P, MSCI) and normalize reference/market data.
  • Support market data ingestion and serving to client-facing processes and internal data products.
  • Debug complex production issues across code, data, and infrastructure boundaries to protect business-critical data logic.
  • Safely refactor legacy systems and build shared framework code used across multiple repositories and product areas.
  • Develop and maintain formula engines, rule processing systems, and proprietary DSL-style code.
  • Improve automated testing around parsing, calculations, and data correctness.
  • Partner with engineering leadership to evolve the platform toward modern data lake architectures and AI integrations.
  • Document key systems, processes, and market data serving platforms.
  • Monitor industry trends and directions to help modernize platform architecture and technical practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of extensive software engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on Java development background building backend services, libraries, and applications.
  • Proficient with SQL Server or relational databases, including writing/refactoring efficient SQL queries and schema design.
  • Experience with production backend systems involving databases, file-based processing workflows, and data pipelines.
  • Strong debugging, system design, and problem-solving skills across complex production systems.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple repositories and shared framework libraries.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, interpersonal, and communication skills with strong technical ownership.

Preferred Skills

  • Deep experience with market data platforms and financial datasets (time-series data, constituent/membership sets, vendor data normalization, and point-in-time correctness).
  • Familiarity with vendor ecosystems such as Refinitiv, Bloomberg, Haver, FactSet, Markit, or MSCI.
  • Experience modernizing legacy Java or database-heavy systems into modern architectures.
  • Exposure to data lake architectures, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), and orchestration tools like Apache Airflow.
  • Exposure to data governance, catalog, and discovery tools (e.g., Apache Polaris, OpenMetadata).
  • Experience with formula engines, rule processing, or internal DSLs.
  • Experience interfacing with AI platforms as a source or consumer of market data.
  • Experience supporting both internal tooling and commercial data products.
