Beta Engineering is looking for a Transmission Engineering Manager to join our team anywhere in the United States.

Transmission Engineering Managers (TEMs) are supervisors of multiple Transmission Engineer Team Leaders (TETL), Transmission Engineers (TE) and Transmission Engineering Technicians (TET) overseeing the design, interpretation, application and documentation of drawings, calculations, and designs. The TEM is tasked with ensuring that the Transmission Engineering Department’s designs, and applications, are completed to code and standards set forth by the appropriate authoritative bodies. In addition, TEMs are responsible for the training, recruiting, hiring, scheduling, assigning and discipline of TETLs, TEs and TETs under their supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all Transmission engineering design and activities
  • Delegates engineering responsibilities and activities within the TE department
  • Manages the design and checking processes of multiple teams
  • Ensures training and development of TETLs, TEs and TETs
  • Maintains design standards and training guidelines
  • Resolves issues between design teams and departments
  • Ensures technical questions posed by construction managers, field staff, project managers, customers and their representatives are addressed
  • Recognizes and recommends methods to improve every customer’s experience
  • Travels periodically to customer offices for project meetings, to job sites for construction visits and as necessary to perform managerial responsibilities with remote employees
  • Performs bi-yearly evaluations on all employees reporting to them

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Transmission Engineering Manager will have multiple employees reporting to this position.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of employee PTO
  • Recruits, hires and trains new engineers
  • Provides input on organizational structure, employee performance, continuing education, employee development and disciplinary actions
  • Enforces discipline policies within department
  • Assures department and themselves adhere to and practice the Beta core competencies and Beta principles
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Vice President of Engineering

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Performs quality work within deadlines without direct supervision.
  • Interacts professionally with other employees and customers.
  • Works effectively as a leader in the department.
  • Demonstrates integrity and ethics in all client relationships and communications.
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor and teams regarding designs, concerns, studies or tests
  • Desires to participate in continued education and training
  • Overnight travel to active job sites
  • Must have clean driving record as use of company vehicles is a requirement of position

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree (or higher) in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is required
  • PE is required
  • Previous design experience in overhead and underground transmission design including: grading, foundation design and details, PLS CADD design, plan and profiles, general arrangements, structure designs, steel details, sag tension and wire stringing.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required
  • Strong background in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; strong verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Knowledge of all or some of the following applications are preferred: AutoCAD, Microstation, Civil 3D, MathCad, PLS CADD

Salary range is estimated. Actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications and application of any geographic salary differential.
