Your new role
We're looking for an ambitious and highly analytical Data Science Engineer to join our growing Analytics team based full-time at our Eastleigh office. This is an exciting opportunity to work with large-scale sensor datasets, develop innovative machine learning and condition monitoring solutions, and help deliver industry-leading analytics capabilities to customers worldwide.
This role would suit someone with a strong academic background, ideally educated to Master's or PhD level in a STEM discipline, who has already gained some commercial experience applying data science, machine learning, or analytics techniques in a professional environment.
You'll be a naturally curious problem solver, someone who enjoys turning complex data into actionable insights and thrives in a collaborative engineering environment where innovation and continuous improvement are encouraged.
Some key responsibilities
- Analyse complex sensor and operational datasets to identify trends, patterns and valuable customer insights.
- Design, develop and refine condition monitoring and machine learning algorithms.
- Develop software and analytical tools to support business and customer requirements.
- Work closely with cross-functional engineering and analytics teams on new capability development.
- Produce clear technical reports, presentations and visualisations for both internal and external audiences.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of analytical approaches, tools and processes.
- Support production analytics systems and help investigate performance issues and technical challenges.
About you
You'll bring a combination of strong technical capability, commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Essential
- Degree, Master's or PhD in a STEM subject.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, MATLAB or a similar language.
- Experience analysing and interpreting complex datasets.
- Understanding of Data Science and Machine Learning principles.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to different audiences.
- Demonstrated experience delivering technical or research-based projects.
- A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and a genuine desire to learn and develop.
Desirable
- PhD in a relevant STEM discipline.
- Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms.
- Experience applying AI technology to complex engineering / data science applications
- Knowledge of software engineering practices such as version control and continuous integration.
- .NET programming experience.
- Experience within predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, vibration analysis or industrial analytics.
- Experience within rail, transport or other engineering-intensive industries.
