Overview

At Magna, backed by Trend Micro and Wistron, we are building the data engine at the core of our next-generation AI platform — the piece our own architecture team calls "the biggest piece" of the whole build.

This isn't a typical product data team. Part of what we're building is meant to operate at national scale, underpinning infrastructure that governments and major enterprise partners will depend on. The bar for data governance, reliability, and architecture is set accordingly.

We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer — someone who has led data engineering or data science functions before, and is ready to own the data foundation for a platform built to operate at that level.

This is not a hands-on-keyboard-only role, and it's not a pure people-management role either. We want someone who can set the technical direction for data architecture and governance, and still get deeply into the pipelines, models, and systems personally when it matters.

What You'll Do

Set the architecture and technical direction for the data engine that the rest of the platform is built on top of.

Design data governance, segregation, and reliability standards suited to infrastructure operating at national and cross-organization scale.

Lead the build-out of wikification and knowledge-graph systems that structure unstructured data for agentic use.

Ensure the data pipelines feeding simulation and agentic systems are fast, well-modeled, and trustworthy.

Help hire, mentor, and set standards for the data engineering team as it grows.

Use AI to accelerate pipeline development, data modeling, and debugging — and set the bar for how the team does the same.

Work closely with Backend, AI/LLM, Security, and Blockchain engineers to expose governed, well-modeled data safely across a complex, multi-party system.

Who We're Looking For

Core Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or related fields; advanced degree a plus.

Strong English communication skills.

7+ years in data engineering or data science, including leadership or technical-lead experience.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment on data governance and multi-tenant isolation.

Comfort owning a system others build directly on top of, and comfort with ambiguity in an early-stage build.

Technical Requirements

Experience building and leading ELT/ETL pipelines in production, at scale.

Deep experience with data modeling, data warehouses, or data lakes.

Proficiency in Python or SQL; hands-on with a data pipeline framework (Airflow, dbt, Spark, or similar).

Experience with data governance, access control, or data segregation in regulated or high-stakes environments.

Understanding of knowledge graphs or graph databases.

Nice-to-have

Experience with wikis, knowledge bases, or knowledge-graph construction.

Experience supporting AI/LLM or agentic systems with data pipelines.

Experience with simulation data or digital-twin systems.

Experience in enterprise software, cybersecurity, gov-tech, or other highly regulated industries.

Prior experience leading or mentoring a data team.

Why Magna

At Magna, you'll build the data foundation for infrastructure meant to operate at national scale.

  • Own "the biggest piece" of our next-generation platform, by our own architecture team's account
  • Shape data governance and knowledge systems for infrastructure that governments and major enterprise partners will rely on
  • Lead and grow a data engineering function from an early stage
  • Work with cutting-edge AI development tools
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams

Passionate about data systems at scale? Ready to lead, not just build? Join Magna and help us build the engine a national-scale platform runs on.
