Full description

As a UX Designer, you’ll help define, design and deliver frictionless, useful experiences that help our members manage their money and look after what matters to them in life. You will work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary delivery teams of designers, product owners, developers and delivery leads, and with other Nationwide departments and stakeholders, to create experiences and services that have a positive impact on our members, colleagues and business.

This role sits within our Digital Product and Design team, helping create exceptional digital journeys and services for our customers and members.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

This is a 15-month Fixed Term Contract opportunity.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our London office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

Whilst this location is where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take day-to-day responsibility for UX design activities, including hands-on creation of deliverables through all stages of the project including research, ideation, gathering and evaluation of customer needs and requirements, user journeys, prototyping from sketches to high fidelity, user interfaces and interaction design. All deliverables will need to meet or exceed the department’s quality standards and support Nationwide’s regulatory and compliance obligations.

You’ll help identify opportunities and shape solutions by using your UX design skills to create and deliver experiences and services that are engaging and meet the needs of those that interact with them.

We’ll need you to attend and contribute to workshops and interviews with members, colleagues, stakeholders and other subject matter experts, and present your work to peers and internal audiences.

You’ll work closely with senior designers and design specialists, using feedback and critique to improve design outcomes and build your craft.

About you

As a minimum requirement, you’ll have:

  • Experience designing and delivering digital journeys in product teams, ideally across mobile app, internet bank or other customer-facing digital platforms
  • The ability to translate business objectives, customer needs and technical constraints into effective, engaging and accessible customer-focused designs
  • Experience documenting experiences through design workshops, personas, information architecture, sketches, wireframes, prototypes, usability test reports or other appropriate deliverables
  • Good working knowledge of industry standard design tools and methods, such as Figma, FigJam, Miro, user testing and design thinking, with awareness of multi-platform, responsive or adaptive interfaces and design systems
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate confidently in multidisciplinary environments
  • A pragmatic, analytical approach to balancing customer, business, regulatory and technical needs while managing multiple deliverables
  • Comfortable using storytelling, critique and presenting to explain your thinking, listen to feedback and improve outcomes

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
