About Data & Insight
As a part of the Central Technology and Data team, Sattva's Data & Insight practice focuses on improving how evidence is captured, processed, interpreted, and used for decision-making in the social sector. The practice combines research, technology, AI, and systems thinking to help organisations move beyond traditional approaches to data collection, evaluation, and reporting towards more real-time, actionable, and scalable insight systems.
The practice is anchored in four core areas: better listening, rapid evaluations, benchmarking, and strengthening data systems.
Role Purpose
The Analyst, Data & Insights will support the identification, assessment, and application of AI-enabled and data technology solutions for monitoring, evaluation, learning, impact assessment, and evidence-generation engagements. The role will involve conducting structured market intelligence, developing vendor evaluation frameworks, assessing technical and functional capabilities of service providers, and translating emerging technologies into practical use cases for Sattva's advisory and impact measurement work.
The analyst will work at the intersection of market research, M&E, impact assessment, AI/NLP-enabled analytics, digital data collection, and solution design.
Role Mandate
This role is focused on building a structured, technically informed view of the AI and data technology ecosystem relevant to Sattva's Data & Insight practice. The analyst will scan Indian and global markets, evaluate technology-led service providers, and identify how emerging AI/NLP tools can be applied across monitoring, evaluation, learning, impact assessment, community listening, rapid evaluation, benchmarking, and data system strengthening projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Market Intelligence and Landscape Mapping
- Conduct structured secondary research on AI-enabled and technology-led service providers in India and global markets.
- Map tools and platforms relevant to digital data collection, community listening, qualitative synthesis, survey analytics, dashboards, data management, and decision support.
- Track emerging models, startups, platforms, research-tech providers, AI products, and implementation partners relevant to social impact and development-sector evidence generation.
- Develop market maps, provider lists, category definitions, trend notes, and concise landscape briefs for internal use.
2. Vendor Evaluation and Technical Assessment
- Develop structured vendor evaluation frameworks and scoring models to compare service providers across functional, technical, operational, and sector-relevance parameters.
- Assess provider capabilities across AI/NLP, transcription, translation, qualitative coding, sentiment analysis, text classification, summarisation, survey analysis, dashboarding, and insight synthesis.
- Evaluate providers on scalability, interoperability, localisation, multilingual support, data security, privacy, implementation complexity, evidence quality, cost, and fit for Sattva project contexts.
- Prepare vendor profiles, comparison matrices, shortlisting notes, risk assessments, and recommendation documents.
3. M&E and Impact Assessment Use-Case Development
- Translate technology capabilities into concrete use cases for monitoring, evaluation, learning, impact assessment, rapid evaluations, benchmarking, and community listening engagements.
- Assess where AI-enabled tools can support different stages of the evaluation lifecycle, including study design, tool development, sampling support, data collection, quality checks, qualitative synthesis, survey analysis, reporting, and decision-making.
- Develop practical use-case notes that explain the problem statement, proposed tool or provider, application pathway, expected value, implementation requirements, limitations, and risks.
- Support internal teams in identifying technology-fit options for live and upcoming Sattva projects.
4. Applied Research, Synthesis, and Knowledge Products
- Synthesize market intelligence, case studies, product information, demos, public documentation, and expert inputs into clear and decision-ready knowledge products.
- Build reusable repositories of vendors, tools, evaluation criteria, use cases, pilots, references, and implementation learnings.
- Prepare technical briefs, concept notes, landscape scans, slide decks, and recommendation memos for internal leadership and project teams.
- Support pilots or proof-of-concept exercises with shortlisted technology providers, where required.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Development Studies, Public Policy, Economics, Management, Sociology, Statistics, Data Science, Technology, Research, or related fields.
- 1-3 years of experience in research, consulting, market intelligence, product research, M&E, impact assessment, data systems, technology scouting, or social impact advisory.
- Basic working understanding of monitoring, evaluation, learning, and impact assessment concepts, including theory of change, logframes, indicators, outputs, outcomes, baselines, endlines, mixed-methods research, and evaluation design.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct structured secondary research and convert complex information into concise, well-organised outputs.
- Prior exposure to AI-enabled tools, digital research platforms, data collection systems, analytics platforms, or technology-led service providers is preferred.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Ability to conduct structured market research and technology landscape assessments across India and global markets.
- Ability to evaluate AI-enabled tools, NLP platforms, digital data collection systems, analytics platforms, and technology-led service providers.
- Understanding of AI and NLP applications in qualitative coding, transcription, translation, sentiment analysis, text classification, summarisation, survey analysis, and insight synthesis.
- Familiarity with digital data collection and research platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare, WhatsApp-based systems, IVR, chatbots, dashboards, and data management platforms.
- Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for comparison matrices, scoring models, market maps, and structured analysis.
- Strong PowerPoint and written communication skills for preparing technical briefs, vendor profiles, landscape scans, use-case notes, and recommendation documents.
- Awareness of responsible AI, data privacy, informed consent, data quality, bias, inclusion, and ethical use of technology in social impact contexts.
- Structured thinking, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work independently across multiple research threads.
