About the Role

You will take a key role in a BI/DWH modernization where a complex legacy data warehouse is being analyzed, reshaped and moved toward a modern cloud-based data platform. This is not just a development assignment. You are expected to contribute early in the journey, combining discovery and analysis with hands-on implementation, and helping define how existing legacy flows should evolve.

You will work in a technically demanding environment where deep understanding of SQL Server, SSIS and traditional Microsoft DWH/BI solutions is just as important as practical experience of modernization toward platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Databricks or Snowflake. The role also includes close collaboration with architects, BI developers, business experts and other data engineers. It is a great opportunity if you want to influence both the target architecture and the first steps of the implementation.

Job Description

• You will analyze existing ETL flows, stored procedures, views, tables and dependencies in a complex data warehouse landscape.
• You will help shape the modernization of legacy BI/DWH flows and turn analysis into a practical migration path.
• You will contribute in both discovery work and hands-on implementation during the early phase of the project.
• You will work with SQL Server, T-SQL and SSIS-based solutions while driving the transition to a cloud-based data platform.
• You will document technical solutions, data flows, mappings and key design decisions in a structured way.
• You will collaborate closely with architects, BI developers, business experts and other data engineers to create sustainable data solutions.
• You will support and guide more junior data engineers in the team.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience as a Data Engineer.
• Very strong SQL competence, especially in SQL Server and T-SQL.
• Documented experience of SSIS and traditional Microsoft DWH/BI environments.
• Experience of analyzing ETL flows, stored procedures, views, tables and dependencies.
• Experience of modernization or migration from legacy DWH to a cloud-based data platform.
• Experience of at least one of the following: Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Databricks or Snowflake.
• Good understanding of Kimball, Data Vault, star schema and data marts.
• Experience of CI/CD, Git and structured development flows.
• Ability to document technical solutions, data flows, mappings and design decisions.
• Ability to work closely with architects, BI developers, business experts and other data engineers.
• Ability to contribute in both analysis and discovery as well as hands-on implementation.
• Ability to lead more junior Data Engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience of dbt.
• Experience of SSAS, SSRS or Power BI.
• Experience of Purview, Unity Catalog or DataHub.
• Experience from domains such as retail, supply chain, finance or HR.
