Your Role
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in COBOL-based legacy systems and hands-on experience developing enterprise Java applications. This role will focus on analyzing, converting, and modernizing mainframe applications from COBOL to Java while ensuring business functionality, performance, and data integrity are maintained.
The candidate will collaborate with architects, business analysts, modernization specialists, and testing teams to deliver scalable, maintainable, and cloud-ready solutions.
What You Will Do
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze existing COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, and batch applications to understand business processes and technical dependencies.
- Convert and refactor legacy COBOL code into modern Java-based applications.
- Translate business logic from mainframe systems into Java microservices and enterprise applications.
- Design, develop, test, and deploy Java applications using modern frameworks and design patterns.
- Participate in application modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
- Work closely with business users and SMEs to validate functionality and ensure business continuity.
- Identify opportunities to optimize converted code rather than performing straightforward code translation.
- Develop integration solutions between modern Java applications and legacy systems when required.
- Create technical documentation, mapping documents, and conversion guidelines.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, and production deployment activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues arising during migration and post-migration support.
