Are you an experienced Business Analyst who enjoys getting into the detail, understanding how things work and helping turn business needs into practical solutions?
Joining our Finance, Data & Digital team, you’ll work across a range of projects, systems and improvement initiatives, partnering with people across Council to understand their needs, unpack problems and identify better ways forward. With a number of important technology and systems initiatives ahead, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to work that will improve and modernise how we operate. From defining requirements and mapping processes through to testing, implementation and ongoing system support, you’ll help ensure the solutions we put in place deliver what the business and our people need.
This is a role where strong analysis matters, but so does your ability to bring people with you. You’ll connect the dots between people, processes and technology, facilitate conversations and provide constructive challenge to help turn complex requirements into clear, workable outcomes.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
As our Business Analyst, you’ll be involved in understanding business challenges and opportunities, assessing potential solutions and supporting their delivery through to implementation.
Working with a wide range of stakeholders, you’ll facilitate workshops, explore different perspectives and help teams work through complex or competing requirements. You’ll also work alongside suppliers and internal teams to support selected applications, coordinate issues and upgrades, and help ensure systems continue to meet business needs.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Analyse business processes, problems and opportunities and recommend improvements
- Capture, define and manage business and user requirements
- Facilitate workshops and bring together different stakeholder perspectives
- Assess potential solutions, including impacts, risks, costs and benefits
- Develop acceptance criteria and support testing of systems and business processes
- Support systems and applications, working with internal teams and external suppliers
- Turn complex information into clear, practical guidance for others
He kōrero mōhou - About You
You’re an experienced Business Analyst who can move comfortably between the technical detail and the bigger business picture. You’re naturally curious, ask good questions and aren’t afraid to constructively challenge the way things are done when there’s an opportunity to improve.
You’ll bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field
- At least seven years’ experience working as a Business Analyst
- Strong experience working with ERP and supporting systems, including databases, data structures, reporting, extracts and data manipulation
- Experience analysing business needs and translating them into clear requirements and workable solutions
- Confidence facilitating workshops and working with a wide range of stakeholders
- Strong communication, problem-solving and organisational skills
- A practical, customer-focused approach and an interest in improving systems and processes
Experience with system implementation and management, IT service management or Microsoft 365 tools such as Teams, OneDrive, Power Apps and Power BI would also be valuable

This is a 12 month fixed term opportunity, working full time 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. You will be based in Napier
The annual salary package for this role is $93,514 - $104,516 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
