Full description

This is us

At Avenga, we believe that human creativity empowers technology that matters. Operating globally, our 6000+ specialists provide a full spectrum of services, including business and tech advisory, enterprise solutions, CX, UX and UI design, managed services, product development, and software development.

This is the job

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with strong experience in Node.js/TypeScript and AWS serverless to design, build, and operate the backend services of Optimus 4.0.

The main focus will be on IoT telemetry ingestion and time-series data processing, APIs consumed by frontend and mobile applications, and ensuring operability of services in production.

This role involves real ownership of critical components. Architectural decisions are made collaboratively with the Tech Lead and Solution Architect, with mandatory documentation (ADRs) in the repository. It is not a pure execution role — we expect technical judgment, initiative, and the ability to raise standards across the team.

This is you

Must-have qualifications:

  • Solid experience in backend development with Node.js/TypeScript, designing REST APIs and/or event-driven architectures.
  • Proven expertise in AWS serverless: Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, and at least two integration services (API Gateway, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, Kinesis, Step Functions).
  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and hands-on experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL (modeling, indexing, performance, transactions, troubleshooting).
  • Experience with high-frequency time-series data: ingestion, window queries, aggregations, retention policies.
  • Daily use of GitHub: PRs, code reviews, branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Good practices in testing (unit/integration), observability, and security (secrets management, OWASP, authentication/authorization).
  • Technical English for documentation, specifications, and code comments.

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Experience with AWS IoT Core (MQTT), Device Shadows, Rules Engine.
  • Production experience with TimescaleDB (hypertables, query optimization, cost control).
  • Familiarity with AWS CodeArtifact, AWS CDK, and Lambda Powertools for TypeScript.
  • Experience with monorepos (Turborepo, NX) and package managers like pnpm.
  • Knowledge of OpenTelemetry/X-Ray, SRE practices (SLOs, error budgets, postmortems).
  • Hybrid experience with containers (Docker, ECS).
  • Industrial/IoT context: SCADA, MES, sensors, industrial protocols.

This is your role

  • Design and implement APIs and serverless services in Node.js/TypeScript on AWS Lambda.
  • Define and maintain event-driven architectures for IoT telemetry ingestion.
  • Optimize Aurora PostgreSQL data models and manage time-series data efficiently.
  • Implement observability end-to-end with actionable alarms, logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Ensure security best practices: IAM least-privilege, secrets management, encryption.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and manage private npm packages with AWS CodeArtifact.
  • Mentor engineers, elevate coding standards, and drive platform improvements.
  • Manage operational risks: concurrency, cold starts, service limits, capacity planning.

What awaits you at Avenga?

  • A long-term project with real ownership of mission-critical components.
  • A collaborative environment where architecture decisions are shared and documented.
  • Opportunities to grow expertise in IoT, serverless-first architectures, and time-series data processing.
  • A culture that values innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

At Avenga, everyone matters. We provide equal opportunities in recruitment, career development, and leadership, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, or any other characteristic.
