Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager / Sub-Project Manager to support a large and highly complex digitalisation project in a security-sensitive public-sector environment.

The role covers end-to-end responsibility for assigned sub-projects, from solution development through implementation and commissioning, with a strong focus on schedule, cost, quality, stakeholder coordination, risk management, and external service-provider control.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex sub-projects from solution development through implementation and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with agreed project deadlines, budgets, and quality objectives.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform cost controlling and prepare regular project status reports.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of detailed project plans.
  • Identify, coordinate, and manage dependencies between workstreams, milestones, and project participants.
  • Identify, assess, and coordinate project changes and risks.
  • Track project progress and initiate corrective measures where required.
  • Coordinate and manage external service providers and suppliers.
  • Support project-related administrative activities.
  • Prepare, facilitate, and follow up on workshops and project meetings.
  • Structure complex project topics and communicate them clearly to different stakeholder groups.
  • Support service-management-related activities where required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, information technology, or a comparable field, or
  • Comparable commercial or IT vocational qualification combined with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Recognised project management certification, ideally IPMA Level D or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of IT service management.
  • Ideally ITIL Foundation certification or demonstrable equivalent practical experience.

Required Professional Experience

  • At least 5 years of continuous professional experience in project or sub-project management.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience as a project team member, consultant, or project manager in digitalisation projects within a defence-related or comparable public-administration environment.
  • Proven experience managing projects with high organisational and technical complexity.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, cost controlling, project reporting, risk management, and change coordination.
  • Experience coordinating external service providers.
  • Practical experience with project management and collaboration tools, including:
  • Jira or comparable tools
  • Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft Project
  • Experience preparing and facilitating workshops.

Language Requirements

  • German: C1
  • English: B1

Language levels should correspond to the CEFR framework unless the respective language is the candidate's native language.

Additional Requirements
