Full description
As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions organization, we have a vision to provide business applications, leveraging Amazon's unique experience and expertise, that are used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon's real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use.
Just Walk Out (JWO) enables shopping in retail stores with no lines and no checkout. You simply use a credit card to enter the store, take what you want from our selection of fresh, delicious meals and grocery essentials, and leave the store. This checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by Just Walk Out Technology, which automatically detects whether products are taken or returned, and enables shoppers to grab and go from stores ranging from small airport kiosks to massive university stores.
The Merchant In-Store Operations team, within JWO, owns the tools, systems, and workflows that enable merchants and their store associates to operate autonomous retail environments at scale. The role spans directly working with two engineering teams that are responsible for unattended store operations, planogram and product layout tooling, and in-store associate experience and education; Together, these teams serve JWO's growing global footprint, supporting diverse retail configurations—from fully staffed locations to completely unattended kiosks and micro-markets—enabling merchants across Sports, Education, Travel, Healthcare, and Hospitality verticals to run Just Walk Out stores efficiently and confidently. This Senior Product Manager-Tech will own the product vision spanning both teams, defining how merchants and store teams interact with, monitor, and maintain their autonomous retail environments day-to-day, and how customer support and tech operations teams diagnose and resolve issues at speed.
You will define the product roadmap spanning two engineering teams—In-Store Operations —covering unattended store operations, store associate tooling, planogram management, store availability, and customer support experience capabilities that scale from hundreds to thousands of stores with vastly different operational models. You will work with Enterprise Customers, System Integrators, Engineering, Solution Architects, Customer Support, and Tech Operations teams to drive the long-term Merchant In-Store Operations vision as JWO expands from 350+ stores today to thousands of stores globally. This role requires deep understanding of physical retail operations, store-level workflows, customer support systems, and the ability to design intuitive tools that empower merchants, frontline associates, and support teams to succeed in autonomous retail environments.
As a tenured Product Manager, you are familiar with the product development lifecycle. You exhibit high proficiency and efficacy in core product management disciplines such as defining user stories, priorities, success metrics, presenting vision that works backwards from customers, and are comfortable driving clarity across multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment. A successful candidate will combine an ability to Think Big with keen attention to detail. We are looking for a passionate, data-driven decision maker who likes building from scratch, experimenting with emerging technologies like generative AI and AI-powered agents, and setting high standards. You have a high degree of ownership, deep retail operations and customer support expertise, and are an excellent written and verbal communicator who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment.
Key job responsibilities - Define and evangelize the long-term vision for Merchant In-Store Operations, developing strategic roadmaps for unattended operations, planogram tooling, and in-store associate experience that align with Just Walk Out's goal of scaling from 400 to 7,000+ stores by 2028
- Own the unattended operations strategy, designing and delivering the systems, workflows, and merchant-facing capabilities that enable fully unmanned JWO stores (micro-markets, kiosks, grab-and-go locations) to operate reliably at scale with minimal human intervention, including remote monitoring, automated alerting, and self-service recovery mechanisms
- Lead the planogram tools vision and execution, owning the end-to-end product experience that enables merchants and solution architects to design, configure, validate, and update store layouts and product placements across diverse physical formats, reducing planogram setup time and improving accuracy for new store launches and seasonal resets
- Own the JWO In-Store Associate Experience and Education strategy, building intuitive tools, dashboards, and training resources that empower store associates to understand autonomous retail operations, troubleshoot common issues, manage day-to-day store tasks, and deliver excellent customer service in a checkout-free environment
- Partner with engineering leadership to deliver scalable, enterprise-grade in-store operations capabilities, making technical decisions that balance merchant needs across diverse verticals (Sports, Education, Travel, Healthcare, Hospitality) with engineering constraints, platform stability, and the ability to support stores with vastly different physical layouts and operational requirements
- Own the operational playbook for unattended store formats, defining standard operating procedures, escalation paths, and automated remediation workflows that ensure consistent store uptime and customer experience across geographies and merchant types
- Define and track key metrics including store uptime, mean-time-to-resolution, associate task completion rates, planogram accuracy, and merchant satisfaction to drive continuous improvement and inform product investment decisions
- Build and maintain relationships with enterprise customers and cross-functional stakeholders, gathering requirements from merchants operating at scale, understanding in-store operational constraints, and ensuring Merchant In-Store Operations capabilities meet current needs while anticipating future requirements as the business scales globally
