Overview The Access Management Team builds identity and access governance products within Microsoft Entra. Microsoft Entra Identity Governance helps customers manage the identity and access lifecycle across their organizations, including employees, partners, agents, and other non-human identities.
We are looking for an action-oriented Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead the expansion of our governance solutions across human and non-human identities accessing applications, directories, and resources in customers’ cloud and hybrid environments. In this role, you will have opportunities to collaborate across Microsoft and with a broad ecosystem of industry partners that build leading business applications, helping deliver comprehensive identity and access management and governance solutions.

Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers building security, identity, and access management products and services.
- Set clear priorities and align the team’s engineering roadmap with customer needs, product strategy, and business objectives.
- Guide the design, development, and delivery of globally distributed, business-critical identity governance services.
- Influence the technical direction and architecture of solutions that govern human and non-human identities across applications, directories, and resources.
- Drive engineering excellence across design, coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
- Champion security, privacy, reliability, performance, and compliance throughout the product and service lifecycle.
- Translate long-term product and technical strategy into incremental milestones that deliver measurable customer and business value.
- Collaborate across Microsoft and with external industry partners to build integrated identity and access governance solutions for a broad ecosystem of business applications.
- Make informed engineering and investment decisions, manage technical risks, and deliver results in complex and ambiguous environments.
- Build an inclusive, accountable, and learning-oriented team culture where engineers are empowered to innovate and grow.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of people management experience leading software engineering teams, including developing talent, fostering innovation, and delivering results through leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
- 6+ years of experience designing, building, or operating commercial software applications, cloud services, or large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience with identity and access management, identity governance, or related security products and services.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
