Job Description
The Financial Analyst will be required to contribute to delivery of the group business planning process, with a particular focus on the mining businesses as well as the assessment and analysis of both current operational performance and future project investments. The focus will be on ensuring a cohesive strategic plan across the Group and that both investment opportunities and operational performance align to this plan and deliver the bottom-line benefits as expected. The Finance Analyst - Business Planning should build strong working relationships with the De Beers Technical & Sustainability team and Group Finance teams as well as Business Unit Finance teams.
TYPICAL TASKS
- Participate in the preparation of the joined up De Beers consolidated Business plan (5-year focus and life of mine)
- Prepare presentation materials and reports in support of the De Beers Group Business Plan and Budget.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the business units with the view of gaining in-depth knowledge of their operations including risks and opportunities with respect to their 5 year / LOM plans. •
- A strong understanding of the requirements of the shareholders is important as well as how these requirements impact Business Unit performance and delivery.
- Conduct monthly flash report calls with assigned Businesses and analyse the monthly operational performance against plan/forecast and identify trends and clearly articulate potential upside or risk to Senior Management Review Monthly / Quarterly Performance Reports prepared by the Business Units and highlight any questions or prompts to Senior Management that should be flagged to the Business Units. Further, provide input into the Group quarterly performance report.
- Analyse the monthly spend against the approved capital plan for the Mining business, identify trends, investigate variances and clearly articulate risks and opportunities.
- Provide business support, in facilitating the draft and final business plan and life of mine plan in terms of technical and system guidance.
- Together with the rest of the team, prepare deliverables & analysis as part of the shareholder integrated planning process.
- Respond to ad-hoc information requests from various stakeholders (shareholders, business development, strategy, Exco) providing meaningful and validated valuations and analysis.
- Feed into the annual impairment review process, including interaction with the auditors and compliance with Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR).
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant financial qualification or technical mining discipline
- Higher technical degree and/or CIMA/CA would be advantageous.
Experience:
- 5 years’ experience within a mine planning / engineering role at a mining site or equivalent; or Operational experience, preferably on a mining operation; or
- Experience within a financial role providing a service to a mining client
- Hyperion Strategic Finance (HSF), Onestream and AFC (HFM) system knowledge would be advantageous
