Full description
Twisto, a Param Company, is a modern financial services provider in Central and Eastern Europe. With our app, people have full control over their payments - they can defer or split purchases, share expenses, pay invoices, or shop with virtual and physical cards. We deliver clarity, convenience, and fair exchange rates both at home and abroad. We are a company that keeps growing, innovating, and expanding our services to make everyday life easier for our customers.
What the role is about:
This role is for someone who wants to combine strong backend engineering with technical leadership. You’ll stay close to the code, help shape how things are built, and work closely with engineers, product, and business partners to move ideas into production.
This is the role focused on the technical quality of the team’s work, architecture, delivery decisions, and long-term health of the systems your team owns.
What you’ll do:
- Own the technical direction of your area and help the team make strong engineering decisions.
- Own complex features and systems from early problem definition through design, implementation, rollout, and long-term improvements.
- Lead technical discussions and help turn unclear product needs into clear technical plans and milestones.
- Design and review architecture for Python-based backend services, balancing speed, simplicity, and long-term maintainability.
- Work hands-on in the codebase, especially on backend services built mainly in Python and Django.
- Improve existing systems with a focus on reliability, performance, security, observability, and developer experience.
- Support engineers through code reviews, technical mentoring, and day-to-day collaboration.
- Contribute to incident response and post-mortems, and make sure lessons learned turn into real improvements.
- Take part in technical hiring and help onboard new engineers from the technical side.
- Look for ways to improve engineering processes such as testing, CI/CD, and development standards.
How we work:
We work closely across engineering, product, analytics, and business. Requirements are often shaped together, so it helps to enjoy asking questions, challenging assumptions, and finding better ways forward.
We work in 2-week sprints, use Slack for most communication, and meet regularly to plan, review, and solve problems together. As a Tech Lead, you’ll help create technical alignment inside your team and across the wider engineering group.
Tech stack:
Python, Django, PostgreSQL, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Grafana, and related tooling.
What we offer at Twisto:
- A place to grow and do meaningful work - We support you in developing your skills, taking ownership of your projects, and sharing ideas that improve the way we work.
- Friendly and open culture - No dress codes, no bureaucracy. We’re a close-knit, collaborative team that values transparency and agility.
- Time for work, time for life - Our 37.5-hour workweek helps you keep a healthy balance and energy for what matters outside of work.
- Benefits you’ll actually use - MultiSport card, fresh fruit 🍎 in the office, regular team events, and at least 5 weeks of vacation per year 🌴.
- Be part of something exciting - Twisto is growing in Europe, and your work will directly contribute to that journey 🌍.
- Strong backend experience in Python, ideally including Django, - 5+ years.
- Experience designing and evolving APIs and backend services in production.
- Good understanding of SQL and relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
- Strong system design skills and the ability to make pragmatic technical decisions.
- Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers technically, or acting as a go-to technical person for a team.
- Confidence working in existing codebases and improving systems over time, not only building from scratch.
- Comfort working with people across engineering, product, and business.
- Strong communication skills in English; Czech or Polish is a plus.
