We are seeking an experienced BI Reporting & Data Analytics Analyst to support a large-scale reporting modernization and system migration initiative.
This role will be heavily focused on building, testing, validating, revising, and migrating business intelligence reports as the organization transitions from a legacy environment to a new commercial platform. The selected consultant will support a portfolio of more than 50 reports and work closely with business stakeholders, engineering teams, and architecture teams to ensure reporting outputs are accurate and ready for production.
This is not a traditional Business Analyst or project management position. The strongest candidate will come from a hands-on BI/reporting and data analytics background with strong SQL skills and experience working within Microsoft data environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, revise, and update BI reports.
- Test reports prior to production deployment and validate reporting outputs for accuracy and completeness.
- Support the migration and modernization of 50+ existing reports.
- Work with report owners and business users to understand reporting needs, clarify information, and validate results.
- Read, understand, and validate SQL queries used to support reporting and analytics.
- Work with Azure SQL environments and validate information coming from Synapse endpoints.
- Perform data validation and reconciliation activities associated with report and system migration.
- Investigate reporting discrepancies and work with technical teams to identify and resolve data issues.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, architecture, reporting, and business teams.
- Assist with requirements clarification where needed, with an emphasis on translating business reporting needs into accurate reporting outputs.
- Validate migrated reports against legacy outputs and underlying source data.
- Support testing, revision, and production-readiness activities throughout the reporting lifecycle.
- Independently gather information from appropriate stakeholders and keep assigned reporting deliverables moving toward completion.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Strong professional experience in BI reporting, reporting analytics, or data analytics.
- Hands-on experience developing, modifying, testing, or validating business intelligence reports.
- Strong SQL skills with the ability to read, understand, and validate existing SQL queries.
- Experience working with Azure SQL.
- Experience working with or validating data from Azure Synapse environments.
- Strong analytical and data-validation skills.
- Experience identifying and investigating discrepancies between reporting outputs and underlying data.
- Ability to work effectively across both business and technical teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with report owners and stakeholders.
- Ability to independently navigate a complex enterprise environment and drive assigned deliverables forward.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Power BI and a strong understanding of BI reporting concepts.
- Understanding of reporting models and reporting architecture.
- Experience supporting report migrations or large reporting-modernization initiatives.
- Previous experience supporting a major system implementation or legacy-system replacement.
- Experience working within a utility or similarly complex enterprise environment.
- Business analysis experience is helpful but is not the primary focus of the position.
