This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer (AWS / Python) based in United States.
This is an opportunity to build scalable, cloud-native backend systems supporting healthcare and analytics platforms. You’ll design and develop reliable applications, data workflows, and integrations using Python, SQL, and AWS services. The role combines backend engineering, data architecture, cloud infrastructure, and automation in a highly collaborative environment. You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and analytics teams to turn complex requirements into effective technical solutions. Your work will help power secure, high-performance systems while supporting critical healthcare data use cases. The position offers significant ownership, opportunities for technical leadership, and exposure to modern serverless and data technologies. It is fully remote and suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and continuously improving systems.

Accountabilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and support scalable backend applications and services using Python, SQL, stored procedures, and AWS technologies including Lambda, API Gateway, Glue, Step Functions, and related services.
- Build serverless functions and microservices that support application functionality and sophisticated data-processing workflows.
- Design scalable cloud data architectures encompassing data lakes, data warehouses, bulk ingestion, transaction processing, and integrations across internal and external sources.
- Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using AWS Glue and Python to ingest, transform, enrich, and deliver data reliably.
- Integrate APIs, batch processes, and real-time data streams using AWS services such as Lambda, Glue, Kinesis, Step Functions, and S3.
- Administer and optimize cloud databases including Amazon Redshift, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Aurora, while improving query and application performance.
- Monitor and optimize backend systems and data pipelines for scalability, reliability, latency, and cost efficiency through techniques such as caching, partitioning, and batching.
- Ensure applications and data workflows follow applicable security, privacy, and regulatory standards, including healthcare requirements such as HIPAA.
- Implement appropriate access controls and data protection practices for sensitive healthcare and business information.
- Partner with product managers, data analysts, engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective backend solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development team members and contribute to architecture, coding, and backend engineering standards.
- Drive automation, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD practices to improve development and deployment processes.
- Identify opportunities to enhance code quality, system reliability, operational efficiency, and overall engineering practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative or closely related field.
- 5+ years of experience in software development or a comparable engineering role, including demonstrated technical leadership experience.
- Strong professional experience developing software with Python and SQL, including stored procedures and database-driven applications.
- Advanced SQL expertise, including query development, views, stored procedures, triggers, and relational database design within an AWS cloud environment.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Glue, API Gateway, and Step Functions; experience with additional services such as S3, Kinesis, Redshift, and RDS/Aurora is highly valuable.
- Strong understanding of relational databases and experience with Redshift, Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar RDBMS technologies.
- Experience designing and maintaining ETL/data pipelines, cloud data architectures, APIs, and distributed or serverless systems.
- Required experience working with healthcare claims data, including HL7, medical claims, prescription/Rx claims, or comparable healthcare datasets.
- Understanding of security, privacy, and regulatory considerations for healthcare data, including HIPAA.
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure-as-code is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work independently, provide technical leadership, and continuously identify opportunities for improvement.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
