FINANCIAL ANALYST CO-OP

Are you passionate about using research to navigate complex regulatory environments and influence industry strategies? ScottMadden, a premier management consulting firm, is seeking a driven candidate to join our Rates & Regulatory Practice as a Financial Analyst Co-op on the Regulatory Cost of Capital team. This is your opportunity to apply critical thinking in analyzing financial and economic data in support of regulatory and utility-focused initiatives while gaining broad exposure to important issues in the energy and water industries.

What You’ll Do As a Financial Analyst Co-op, you’ll be an integral part of our project teams, gaining hands-on experience with meaningful assignments. You will work closely with other members of the firm to complete client engagements. Our engagements are driven by client needs which means co-ops will work on a variety of projects for numerous clients over the co-op period. Co-ops will conduct detailed analysis using economic and financial market data to support client filings. Co-ops will gain theoretical and practical exposure to finance, with emphasis on measuring and assessing risk.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and updating financial models and economic analyses in Excel
  • Obtaining and organizing data supporting a financial model twice monthly
  • Research related to various topics, including, but not limited to regulatory precedent, utility risk factors, and economic trends
  • Developing a slide deck to present before the Rates & Regulatory practice
  • Auditing analyses and expert testimony to ensure accuracy.

What Makes You an Ideal Candidate We’re looking for driven individuals with a passion for solving complex problems and a commitment to excellence. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Pursuing a degree in in finance, managerial or cost accounting, economics, statistics, or a related field with a GPA of 3.2 or above
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills
  • Excellent spreadsheet, analytical, writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and eagerness to learn
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple competing projects
  • Interest in energy, utilities, or policy is a plus

Location This co-op position is hybrid in nature, requiring up to 1 – 2 days per week in our Framingham, MA office. Candidates should have reliable transportation to be considered for the role.
