Full description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Software Engineer — Analytics & Reporting based in Brazil.
This is a player-coach engineering leadership role responsible for building and scaling customer-facing analytics products and reporting capabilities. You will lead a newly formed team of six engineers while remaining hands-on across architecture, code reviews, and software development. The role spans data APIs, analytics experiences, customer reporting, and the services that power them in production. You will work closely with Product, Design, UX Research, and Data Engineering in a highly collaborative remote environment. A major focus will be modernizing backend services, strengthening platform ownership, and supporting the migration of data pipelines. You will also help shape AI-assisted analytics and enable data and APIs to support emerging AI-agent use cases. This is an opportunity to combine people leadership, technical strategy, and meaningful product development at scale.

Accountabilities
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of six engineers across backend, frontend, and QA, including hiring, 1:1s, performance management, delivery, and engineering culture.
• Own the development and evolution of customer-facing data APIs and the microservices that support enterprise data access.
• Lead the application side of the Analytics product, including frontend experiences, filtering capabilities, and APIs supporting custom reporting.
• Oversee customer reporting solutions and the gold-layer datasets and data models that power them.
• Establish clear technical ownership for services operated by the team, including deployment, observability, SLOs, on-call practices, and incident management.
• Drive backend modernization toward Kotlin and Spring Boot while developing pragmatic migration strategies for legacy Groovy and Scala services.
• Partner with Data Engineering to migrate data pipelines from the monolith into the broader data platform and ensure reliable handoffs.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Design, UX Research, and Data Engineering to translate customer and business needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Guide architectural decisions, conduct code reviews, and remain hands-on with approximately 20–30% of your time dedicated to technical work.
• Help shape the future of analytics through AI-assisted insights and by making data and APIs accessible to AI-agent ecosystems.
Requirements
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend expertise in JVM technologies and Kotlin strongly preferred.
• At least 2 years of engineering leadership experience with genuine people-management responsibilities, including hiring, coaching, performance management, 1:1s, and delivery ownership.
• Strong experience designing, operating, and evolving production microservices using Kubernetes, AWS, observability practices, SLOs, and incident management.
• Practical experience running or leading an on-call rotation and taking ownership of production incidents.
• Strong SQL skills and solid analytical data modeling capabilities, with the ability to reason confidently about datasets used for customer reporting.
• Experience building RESTful, service-oriented architectures that serve external customers at scale.
• Working knowledge of frontend technologies such as React and TypeScript, sufficient to effectively guide and review frontend engineering work.
• Experience working with legacy systems and leading or contributing to application modernization and migration initiatives.
• Strong experience with Kotlin, Spring Boot, and PostgreSQL is highly relevant to the role.
• Professional working proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally within a distributed international organization.
• Experience with Groovy, Scala, or Python is a plus.
• Familiarity with BI tools such as Amazon QuickSight and data platforms including Databricks, Snowflake, or Redshift is desirable.
• Experience developing LLM-powered product features or exposing data and APIs to AI agents is an advantage.
Benefits
• Fully remote work model, with the role available to professionals based in Brazil.
• Opportunity to lead and grow a newly established, cross-functional engineering team.
• Significant hands-on technical ownership alongside people leadership and architectural responsibilities.
• Exposure to modern cloud-native technologies, including AWS, Kubernetes, Kotlin, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and data platforms.
• Opportunity to work on customer-facing analytics, reporting, APIs, and AI-enabled product capabilities.
• International collaboration within a distributed engineering organization.
• Professional growth through ownership of modernization, data-platform integration, and emerging AI initiatives.
• Meaningful influence over engineering culture, technical direction, product evolution, and team development.
