About the Team:
UX Foundations owns Quizlet's mobile apps end to end - both the core app layers everything else is built on (shared libraries and SDKs, security, CI/CD, and the release process) and a steady stream of feature work across the app. Feature teams build user-facing features, but UX Foundations ships features directly just as often, especially where the work touches the foundation itself. We collaborate closely with feature teams, backend services, design, and product to keep the mobile app reliable, fast to build on, and moving forward for learners.
About the Role:
We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join UX Foundations. You'll split your time between owning core iOS app layers — shared libraries, SDKs, security, CI/CD, and the release process — that every feature team builds on, and shipping user-facing features directly. Both are core to the role, not one occasional on top of the other.
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-quality mobile experiences. You’ll have the opportunity to influence technical direction, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor other engineers while driving projects from ideation through release. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about creating intuitive, performant, and reliable mobile experiences that have a real impact on learners worldwide.
This role is open to remote candidates anywhere in the US, as well as candidates based in our San Francisco or New York offices. If you're based in SF or NY, we ask that you come into the office 2 days per week: Wednesday and Thursday, or as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.
We’re happy to share that this is an hybrid position in our San Francisco office. To support collaboration, we ask employees to be in the office at least 2 days a week: Wednesday and Thursday.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and maintain the core iOS app layers - shared libraries, SDKs, and frameworks - that feature teams build on
- Own and ship user-facing features end-to-end — from design through release — alongside your foundation work
- Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines and the release process for the iOS app
- Collaborate closely with product and other cross-functional partners to define requirements and deliver solutions
- Collaborate closely with product and other cross-functional partners to define requirements and deliver solutions
- Understand and operate in our existing systems and proactively suggest improvements and new ideas based on industry best practices
- Drive incident investigations, post mortems, and retrospectives and effectively advocate for long-term improvements to systems and processes
- Influence within your team for the right engineering improvements to increase quality of our software, testing, and processes
What you bring to the table:
- Multiple years of experience in mobile software development
- Strong problem solving and debugging skills on mobile software products
- Proficiency in either iOS or Android development and some level of comfort with the other.
- Eagerness to learn, grow, and take on new challenges
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across a range of audiences
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with native Android, native iOS, and cross platform mobile development approaches. Including evaluating tradeoffs
- Track record of influencing adjacent engineering teams of best practices or mobile client needs
Compensation, Benefits & Perks:
