A multinational defence organisation runs its security tooling on Linux, and needsan engineer to install, harden, automate and keep it available — working inside a change-controlledenvironment where an unexplained fix is not a fix.
What you would be doing
- Installing and monitoring Linux operating systems and the applications that run on them, tothe standards of a secure environment.
- Contributing to the availability, scalability and performance of the security tooling estateand the platforms underneath it.
- Building and maintaining custom systems and tools that make it possible to test, integrate,automate and monitor both custom and commercial applications.
- Preparing and defending application upgrades in front of the change management board.
- Rolling out new features and installations inside the protected perimeter.
- Writing the documentation and operating procedures for what you build, and testing them.
- Diagnosing problems in Linux systems and in how they integrate with directory services, singlesign-on, web platforms and log aggregation.
- Finding the patterns behind repeated incidents and proposing the improvements that reducethem.
- Working with service management on incident, problem and change procedures.
What you would bring
- A computer science degree with at least a year as a Linux engineer, or the equivalent inpractice.
- Linux server administration on Red Hat Enterprise Linux — installation, configuration andmaintenance.
- Programming or scripting used in earnest for automation.
- Ansible, and comfort with virtualisation such as VMware.
- Security practice applied to Linux: firewalls, encryption, access control.
- Red Hat certification — both administrator and engineer level is preferred.
- Desirable: Red Hat Satellite and packaging, observability practice, containers with Podman orDocker, collaboration tooling, and open-source contribution.
