As a Cloud Network Software Engineer, you will develop software, automation, and AI-enabled solutions that support Microsoft's High Value Assets (HVA) and Treasury network infrastructure. You will work on cloud-native applications, developer tools, automation frameworks, and operational services that enable network engineering teams to manage and operate enterprise-scale environments.
In this role, you will partner with software engineers, network engineers, security teams, and platform stakeholders to develop tools and services that support network provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management. You will also contribute to operational readiness by participating in on-call support and continuously improving the reliability and maintainability of network services.
This position requires software engineering experience, familiarity with modern development practices, and working knowledge of datacenter networking technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software platforms and services that support Microsoft's High Value Assets (HVA) network environments.
- Build and enhance cloud-native applications, APIs, developer tools, and automation solutions that support network provisioning, operations, and lifecycle management.
- Develop AI-enabled solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs), intelligent agents, and machine learning technologies to assist with network diagnostics, configuration management, incident response, and operational workflows.
- Create reusable software components and internal platforms that improve engineering efficiency, consistency, and maintainability.
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and deployment processes for network infrastructure and services.
- Develop telemetry, monitoring, analytics, and visualization capabilities that provide insights into network performance, reliability, and operational health.
- Build self-service tools and engineering platforms that support network engineering teams and streamline service delivery processes.
- Collaborate with software engineers, network engineers, security professionals, and cloud infrastructure teams to deliver reliable and scalable technical solutions.
- Apply software engineering best practices related to code quality, testing, documentation, security, and operational excellence.
- Evaluate emerging AI, automation, and cloud technologies to identify opportunities for improving network operations and engineering processes.
- Maintain technical documentation, network inventory records, and infrastructure lifecycle information to support operational and compliance requirements.
- Partner with security and compliance stakeholders to support security, regulatory, and Zero Trust requirements and ensure alignment with organizational standards and policies.
- Participate in a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and on-call rotation to support the availability, reliability, performance, and observability of HRE and Treasury services. Investigate and resolve service incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve operational readiness and service resilience.
- Work closely with architects, engineers, service owners, product teams, and security partners to deliver solutions and continuously improve enterprise network capabilities.

- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation• OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field• OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience building software tools, automation platforms, or operational solutions.
- Exposure to AI/ML technologies, Large Language Models (LLMs), GitHub Copilot, or AI-enabled engineering workflows is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze technical issues, troubleshoot complex systems, and develop scalable software solutions.Relevant networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP) are a plus.
- Experience with software development practices such as source control, continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), Infrastructure as Code (IaC), API development, and automated testing.Working knowledge of datacenter networking technologies, including TCP/IP, routing and switching, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, network security, and troubleshooting methodologies.

Cloud Network Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
