Senior Embedded Software Engineer C and C Plus Plus
Nordic Investin Group Stockholm, Maine, United States
IT Services and IT Consulting · 201-500 employees
About the role
You will develop embedded software for connected physical products, managing the full lifecycle from requirements and design to hardware integration and verification. The role involves building deterministic components, diagnosing hardware-software interactions, and implementing safety mechanisms and communication protocols.
What they look for
Requirements
Candidates must have substantial experience in embedded development using C or C++ and a strong understanding of microcontrollers, interrupts, and memory constraints. Proficiency in interpreting schematics and experience with RTOS environments and low-level debugging tools are essential.
Full description
One of Nordic Investin’s partner companies is looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer C and C Plus Plus, with Nordic Investin leading the recruitment process. Your code lives close enough to the hardware that timing, memory and failure modes are never abstract concerns.
The partner develops connected physical products where embedded software controls critical behaviour. You will work across the full lifecycle, from requirements and design to implementation, hardware integration and verification.
The environment will suit someone who enjoys building systems, testing assumptions in code and taking responsibility for production behaviour. Technical choices are expected to be explained in terms of maintainability, reliability and the people who use the product.
How you will work
You will work in short delivery cycles with direct access to product, domain and operational colleagues. The partner expects engineers to review designs, test assumptions early and follow important changes into production. Decisions should be recorded clearly enough that another engineer can understand the tradeoff months later.
As a senior colleague, you will own substantial outcomes and help others make stronger decisions. You are expected to recognise risk early, communicate it without drama and move work forward with practical alternatives. The role still includes hands on delivery; seniority here means broader judgement, not distance from the work.
What you will do
- Develop embedded software in C and modern C plus plus.
- Design deterministic components for constrained targets and RTOS environments.
- Bring up new boards and diagnose hardware software interactions.
- Implement communication protocols, diagnostics and safety mechanisms.
- Build unit, integration and hardware in the loop tests.
- Collaborate with electronics, systems and verification engineers.
What you will bring
- Substantial embedded development experience in C or C plus plus.
- Good understanding of microcontrollers, interrupts and memory constraints.
- Experience with RTOS concepts and low level debugging tools.
- Ability to interpret schematics, datasheets and interface specifications.
- Disciplined configuration management and testing habits.
- Professional English; Swedish is useful in many partner teams.
Experience that would add value
- Automotive, medical device or industrial safety standards.
- AUTOSAR or model based development.
- Cybersecurity for connected devices.
A background that can succeed here
Your background could be automotive, industrial automation, robotics, medtech, defence or consumer hardware. We are interested in engineers who can explain the behaviour of the complete system, not only the function they implemented.
What makes the opportunity interesting
The work offers direct contact with real products, real constraints and experienced multidisciplinary teams. Your decisions will affect how the device behaves in the field, which makes careful engineering both visible and valuable.
The exact partner, employment model, compensation, start date and working arrangement will be explained openly during the process. Nordic Investin will make sure you understand the context, expectations and decision path before you are asked to commit significant time.
The recruitment conversation
During the process, Nordic Investin will focus on concrete decisions you have made: the context you received, the alternatives you considered, the result you observed and what you would change today. You do not need every optional technology if your core experience transfers and you can explain how you would close the gap.
How to apply
Apply with your CV or LinkedIn profile and a short note describing the most relevant system, product or transformation you have helped deliver. Nordic Investin welcomes candidates with different routes into technology and assesses applicants on relevant capability, judgement and potential.
