Job Summary
Porter Airlines is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join the Inflight Services team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. In this role, you will lead the revamp and consolidation of the Flight Attendant Manual (FAM) — a regulatory document that is central to our Aircraft Operating Certificate (AOC) consolidation. You will work independently with minimal direction, applying your aviation documentation expertise to produce a manual that meets Transport Canada standards and reflects our operational requirements across both the Dash 8 and Embraer E195-E2 fleets.
This is a high-impact, deadline-driven engagement position. The successful candidate will be comfortable navigating regulatory frameworks, working closely with subject matter experts across the organization, and producing polished, compliance-ready documentation on a tight timeline. Given the candidate's profile, there is also potential to contribute to IT-adjacent Inflight and Flight Operations projects as capacity allows.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end revamp and consolidation of the Porter Flight Attendant Manual in support of AOC consolidation
- Review existing FAM content across both Dash 8 and E195-E2 fleet documentation and identify gaps, inconsistencies, and areas requiring revision
- Rewrite, restructure, and consolidate FAM content in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Transport Canada standards
- Collaborate with subject matter experts in Inflight Services, Flight Operations, Regulatory and Standards, and Training to validate content accuracy
- Manage document version control, revision tracking, and change management throughout the project
- Ensure the completed FAM is formatted, structured, and delivered to meet a tight regulatory deadline
- Actively participate in Porter's Safety Management System (SMS) by identifying and reporting workplace hazards and promoting a safe work environment
- Support the digitization and other IT-adjacent inflight and flight ops documentation projects as capacity allows
- Provide technical writing guidance and documentation best practices to Inflight Services team members where needed
Behavioural Competencies
- Concern for Safety: Identifying hazardous or potentially hazardous situations and taking appropriate action to maintain a safe environment for self and others.
- Teamwork: Working collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals.
- Passenger/Customer Service: Providing service excellence to internal and/or external customers (passengers).
- Initiative: Dealing with situations and issues proactively and persistently, seizing opportunities that arise.
- Results Focus: Focusing efforts on achieving high quality results consistent with the organization’s standards.
- Fostering Communication: Listening and communicating openly, honestly, and respectfully with different audiences, promoting dialogue and building consensus.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of technical writing experience, with demonstrated experience in regulatory or compliance documentation, is required
- Minimum 1 year of aviation industry experience, with direct experience writing or revising flight operations, cabin crew, or maintenance documentation within a certificated airline or aviation organization
- Proven ability to interpret and apply Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) or equivalent regulatory frameworks in a documentation context, and familiarity with Transport Canada regulatory processes and AOC requirements
- Strong ability to work independently with minimal direction, managing competing priorities to meet hard deadlines
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional subject matter experts to validate technical content
- Exceptional written communication skills, with a high standard for accuracy, clarity, and consistency
- Proficiency with standard documentation and version control tools
- IT background or experience with digital documentation platforms, workflow tools, or process automation is preferred
- Experience with Embraer E-jet series or Dash 8 fleet documentation is an asset
