About the Role
This is a raw-talent hire at a fast-growing AI startup in the supply chain and fresh produce space. The team is small, the output bar is extremely high, and the expectation is that each person produces the equivalent of an entire data science function. This is a multiple-hire search, not a single backfill.
What You'll Do
- Build and ship production-grade data science and ML systems end-to-end, often as the primary owner.
- Use agentic AI coding tools daily to accelerate output and maintain high velocity across projects.
- Operate in a zero-to-one environment where priorities shift week to week and every week sets a new record.
- Pick up domain knowledge in retail and fresh produce logistics on the job, applying quantitative rigour to messy, real-world data.
- Contribute across the stack, from problem framing and data pipelines through to deployed models.
What We're Looking For
- A quantitative degree, mathematics PhD, or equivalent rigour from a top-tier university.
- 5 to 10 or more years of relevant experience, but raw ability and output matter more than years on a CV.
- Proven experience as an early employee (first 15 or so) at a startup, with firsthand zero-to-one operating experience.
- Daily hands-on use of agentic AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent. This is a hard requirement.
- Engineering or technical background: founding AI engineer, ML engineer, software engineer, or similar. A data science title is not required.
- High raw ability, a bias for action, and the drive to operate in an always-on, high-intensity environment.
- Based in Berlin or genuinely willing to relocate to Berlin.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: 70,000 to 110,000 EUR per year. Relocation support is available. Visa sponsorship is available.
Location
Hybrid, based in Berlin, Germany.
