💼 About the Role

As a Senior Scala Backend Developer, you will design and build backend services that process financial operations, events, and projections. You will join a team of four engineers, helping shape the architecture of a new product while improving the reliability and performance of the existing platform. The role combines hands-on development with technical decision-making, code review, and close collaboration across a distributed team.

🔍 Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Scala 3 and Cats Effect;

• Help define the architecture and technical direction of a new FinTech product;

• Build reliable workflows for financial operations, domain events, and data projections;

• Apply Event Sourcing, CQRS, and Domain-Driven Design principles to production systems;

• Develop data and storage solutions using PostgreSQL, Redis, and MinIO;

• Improve system performance, resilience, observability, and maintainability;

• Write automated tests and maintain high engineering standards across the codebase;

• Review code, share technical feedback, and support sound implementation decisions;

• Investigate production issues and deliver sustainable fixes;

• Contribute to the continued development and support of the existing platform.

🎓 Requirements

• Strong professional backend development experience at senior level;

• Advanced commercial experience with Scala, ideally including Scala 3;

• Practical knowledge of functional programming and effect systems such as Cats Effect;

• Solid experience with PostgreSQL and production-grade data modelling;

• Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and concurrency;

• Experience designing maintainable backend services and contributing to architectural decisions;

• Confident approach to automated testing, code review, and performance optimization;

• Eligibility to work or provide services and receive payments legally within the EU, subject to the employer’s compliance and contracting requirements.

Nice to Have

• Experience in FinTech, payments, banking, or other transaction-heavy systems;

• Hands-on knowledge of Event Sourcing, CQRS, or Domain-Driven Design;

• Experience with Redis and S3-compatible object storage such as MinIO;

• Familiarity with financial ledgers, transaction processing, event projections, or reconciliation.
