We are seeking a Software Engineer (Java) to join the Sales & Distribution (SnD) Technology Team within Morgan Stanley's Institutional Equities Division. The team develops and supports a suite of front-office applications and analytical tools used by Sales and Trading professionals globally, providing enriched client, sector, and market intelligence.

This role offers the opportunity to work on enterprise-scale applications using modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, web technologies, and databases, while collaborating closely with business stakeholders and global technology teams.

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Lead Software Engineering position at Vice President level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What you’ll do in the role:

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain business-critical applications.
  • Participate in the design, development, testing, and support of software solutions.
  • Collaborate with business users to understand requirements and resolve issues.
  • Contribute to application architecture, design discussions, and code reviews.
  • Work closely with global teams to deliver high-quality technology solutions.
  • Gain exposure to Institutional Equities business processes and workflows.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Strong experience with Core Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and object-oriented design.
  • Understanding of enterprise application architecture, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience developing scalable, high-performance applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Preferred knowledge of SQL and relational databases
  • Preferred familiarity with REST services, microservices, and modern development practices.
  • Preferred exposure to financial services or capital markets is advantageous.
  • Preferred experience with web technologies such as Angular, React, or HTML5 is a plus.
