We are seeking an experienced Azure Database Engineer to support a large-scale enterprise data modernization initiative. This role will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, security, and optimization of Azure-based relational and non-relational databases, Data Lakes, and Data Lakehouse environments. The engineer will play a key role in consolidating data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure Data Lake that will support the implementation of a new enterprise Data Driven Initiative (DDI) solution.
This position will also serve as a technical mentor to junior Database Engineers while collaborating with architects, developers, security personnel, and business stakeholders to ensure scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions.
This is a key position on a new team and is contingent upon award.
Responsibilities
Represent the company and maintain its performance standards within this position.
➢ Design, develop, implement, and maintain Azure-based relational and non-relational database solutions.
➢ Design and administer Azure Data Lakes and Data Lakehouse environments.
➢ Develop and implement data transformation processes utilizing Azure data integration services.
➢ Design optimized data access patterns to maximize application performance and scalability.
➢ Develop, test, and maintain scripts and utilities used to load, transform, and validate enterprise data.
➢ Administer Azure SQL databases, managed instances, elastic pools, and associated cloud resources.
➢ Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with enterprise security policies and cloud security best practices.
➢ Implement backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and geo-replication strategies.
➢ Configure and manage role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and network security.
➢ Monitor database health, performance, availability, and resource utilization using Azure monitoring tools.
➢ Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting database deployments and infrastructure automation.
➢ Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and system architecture documentation.
➢ Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to Database Engineers and project staff.
➢ Collaborate with vendors and project stakeholders during implementation of enterprise data modernization initiatives.
➢ Support ongoing operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of Azure database environments.
➢ Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

➢ Strong experience designing, developing, and implementing Azure Data Lakes and Azure Data Lakehouse architectures.
➢ Experience designing, implementing, and administering relational and non-relational databases within Microsoft Azure.
➢ Experience with Azure Databricks.
➢ Strong Oracle Database administration experience.
➢ Experience developing enterprise data transformation and cloud integration solutions.
➢ Strong experience developing and testing Azure data loading processes using Azure data load utilities.
➢ Experience with Azure Data Factory.
➢ Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines.
➢ Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and Azure architecture.
➢ Experience using Azure Monitor, SQL Analytics, Query Performance Insight, Azure Resource Manager (ARM), Azure CLI, and PowerShell.
➢ Experience implementing backup, recovery, geo-replication, and disaster recovery solutions.
➢ Strong understanding of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), encryption technologies, identity management, and Azure network security.
➢ Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, indexing strategies, and database optimization techniques.
➢ Knowledge of Azure SQL Databases, Azure SQL Managed Instances, and Elastic Pools.
➢ Knowledge of enterprise Data Warehouse Administration and Teradata Data Warehouse environments.
➢ Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
➢ Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
➢ Ability to document technical processes in an organized manner.
➢ Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Clearance:
- Must have a current DoD Security Clearance; secret level or higher.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related STEM discipline.
➢ Seven (7) or more years of experience designing, developing, and implementing Azure Data Lakes and Azure database solutions.
➢ Experience administering both relational and non-relational database environments.
➢ Experience implementing enterprise cloud infrastructure and data modernization initiatives.
➢ Equivalent combinations of education and directly related experience may be considered.
Location:
➢ Remote position with the option for hybrid work in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
➢ Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.
