About the role In this role, you will contribute to the efficient and effective management of the City’s civil infrastructure network, including roads, footpaths, bridges and associated civil assets. You will coordinate and assess third-party applications within Council road reserves, assess network access requirements and provide support for the planning and delivery of capital works projects. Your work will help ensure the City’s infrastructure operates safely, sustainably and efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assess and coordinate third-party road reserve works and heavy-vehicle access applications in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, asset capacity, safety and network requirements.
- Undertake engineering investigations and develop practical recommendations relating to roads, footpaths, bridges and associated civil infrastructure
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture, by supporting change activities and actively collaborating with team members to achieve high levels of productivity.
- Train and actively support others in the team by sharing knowledge to achieve common development goals.
- Translate technical engineering, asset and network access information into clear and practical advice for leaders, stakeholders, customers and the community.
- Work with the department leader to deliver the unit’s business plan and strategy, to achieve value for our community and customers.
- Execute, monitor, and report on work progress against plans and budgets to ensure timely delivery in line with the relevant regulations and policies.
About you To be successful in this role, you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to prioritise and organise tasks, and experience in civil engineering. You will be able to assess and schedule competing road access needs, analyse data to inform practical outcomes, and understand construction legislation with a focus on safety. Tertiary or technical qualifications in civil engineering or construction are highly desirable.
Essential:
- Experience undertaking infrastructure investigations, assessing engineering issues and providing technical advice relating to roads, footpaths, bridges or associated civil infrastructure assets.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to support, influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to achieve practical outcomes.
- Developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical information into clear and practical advice.
- Well-developed planning, prioritisation and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to apply civil engineering principles, relevant legislation, standards and policies to roads, road-reserve access and associated civil infrastructure, with a working appreciation of drainage interfaces.
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
