Senior Python Backend Developer: Team Lead

We are seeking an experienced Senior Python Backend Developer: Team Lead to drive the development of scalable backend systems powering innovative AI-driven solutions. In this leadership role, you will architect robust cloud-native applications, integrate advanced computer vision capabilities, and guide engineering best practices across the software development lifecycle. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will influence technical strategy, mentor developers, and ensure high standards of code quality, performance, and reliability. Accountabilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services and RESTful APIs using Python and modern web frameworks such as Django.

• Lead the integration of computer vision models and AI pipelines into production backend systems, optimizing performance, scalability, and resource utilization.

• Design, implement, and optimize relational database schemas, queries, and indexing strategies to ensure high availability, data integrity, and efficient performance.

• Deploy, manage, and optimize backend infrastructure on AWS while maintaining secure, reliable, and scalable cloud environments.

• Lead technical architecture discussions, define engineering standards, conduct code reviews, and promote software development best practices across the team.

• Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and continuous feedback.

• Collaborate with machine learning, product, and engineering teams to streamline AI model deployment and improve production workflows through MLOps practices where applicable.

• Contribute to CI/CD automation, testing strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality software delivery.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software development experience with strong expertise in Python backend engineering.

• Extensive hands-on experience building scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Django or other modern Python frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.

• Proven experience integrating computer vision technologies into backend applications using frameworks such as OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar tools.

• Strong knowledge of relational databases, including PostgreSQL or MySQL, with expertise in schema design, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.

• Experience deploying, managing, and scaling cloud-native applications on AWS.

• Solid understanding of software architecture, object-oriented programming, clean code principles, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based development workflows.

• Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including architecture design, code reviews, mentoring, and leading engineering teams.

• Familiarity with MLOps practices, model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management is considered an advantage.

• Experience within biotechnology, AgTech, or related scientific domains is beneficial but not required.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in a fully remote team environment.
