A Day in the Life

The Cybersecurity Specialist – Emerging Technologies plays a key role in protecting the data that supports Medtronic’s mission to save and improve lives. This role focuses on securing the enterprise adoption of AI by conducting AI security reviews and assessments, defining guardrails for safe AI use, and enabling teams to adopt AI technologies securely. The specialist also applies AI technologies for security to strengthen Medtronic’s overall cybersecurity posture. The specialist partners closely with innovation, IT, product, and cybersecurity teams to evaluate new AI technologies and use cases, assess associated risks, and provide clear security guidance during pilots and early deployments. They translate evolving business needs into actionable security requirements, help define standards and guardrails for AI adoption, and balance innovation with enterprise risk to support safe and scalable growth.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct AI security reviews and assessments of tools, vendors, models, and agentic AI workflows. 
  • Identify and clearly communicate AI-related security risks and recommended mitigations. 
  • Define, document, and champion guardrails and secure-use patterns for AI adoption across the enterprise. 
  • Support and help operate AI security platforms and controls that safeguard data, models, and AI usage across the enterprise. 
  • Use AI technologies to improve cybersecurity outcomes and enable secure business innovation. 
  • Understand and leverage emerging technologies to improve Medtronic’s cybersecurity posture. 
  • Communicate risks and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Research industry trends, proofs of concept, and vendor capabilities in AI security. 
  • Influence standards and policies to account for new or rapidly evolving AI technologies. 
  • Assist in evaluating emerging AI technologies and platforms. 
  • Provide security guidance during AI pilots, prototypes, and early production deployments. 
  • Partner with innovation, IT, product, and cybersecurity teams to embed security early in new and emerging technologies. 
  • Support broader cybersecurity initiatives when emerging technologies intersect with enterprise risk. 
  • Document lessons learned to inform future technology rollouts. 
  • Translate evolving business ideas into actionable security requirements. 
  • Balance innovation and security to enable the business. 

Required Knowledge and Expertise: 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. 
  • 3+ years of IT experience with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, MCA, or MSc.
  • Clear communication skills to explain technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Understanding of enterprise cybersecurity principles and AI/ML security risks. 
  • Experience conducting security reviews, risk assessments, or control evaluations of new technologies or vendors. 
  • Familiarity with AI technologies and how they are applied and secured in an enterprise setting. 
  • Experience defining or applying security standards, guardrails, or policies for technology adoption. 

 

Nice To Have

  • Previous work in a regulated or large enterprise environment. 
  • Hands-on experience with AI security technologies such as AI gateways and other emerging AI protection technologies. 
  • Familiarity with AI security and governance frameworks (NIST AI RMF, OWASP Top 10 for LLMs, MITRE ATLAS). 
  • Experience assessing agentic AI patterns in enterprise environments. 
  • Hands-on background building or securing AI technologies and automated workflows. 
  • Understanding of data protection, data classification, and data loss prevention concepts. 
  • Understands Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, including their AI/ML services. 
  • Background developing new policies, standards, and processes. 
  • Working knowledge of scripting (PowerShell, Python) to support automation and analysis. 
  • Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or cloud/AI security credentials.
