Position Summary:

The Network Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, supporting, securing, and continuously improving World Travel Inc.’s enterprise network, systems, and infrastructure services. This role partners closely with IT leadership, operations, security, development, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure technology solutions that support business operations.

The position requires a strong blend of network engineering, systems administration, cybersecurity awareness, cloud connectivity, monitoring, automation, documentation, and incident response skills. The engineer is expected to proactively identify risks, improve system performance, support infrastructure modernization, and help ensure compliance with company policies, security standards, and operational best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, maintain, and support enterprise network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless platforms, VPNs, SD-WAN, DNS, DHCP, and related connectivity services.
  • Administer and support core infrastructure systems, virtualization platforms, server environments, storage, backup, replication, remote access, and enterprise applications.
  • Monitor network and system health, capacity, availability, and performance; identify trends and resolve issues before they impact business operations.
  • Implement and maintain security controls, firewall policies, access controls, patching standards, vulnerability remediation, and configuration baselines in alignment with company and compliance requirements.
  • Support cloud and hybrid infrastructure connectivity, including secure access between on-premises systems, cloud platforms, SaaS applications, and remote users.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network, server, endpoint, application, performance, and security-related incidents.
  • Participate in infrastructure projects, upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery planning, business continuity testing, and lifecycle management activities.
  • Develop and maintain accurate network diagrams, system documentation, standard operating procedures, change records, and support runbooks.
  • Use automation, scripting, monitoring tools, and modern management platforms to improve consistency, reduce manual effort, and increase operational reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfer, and escalation support to IT team members and business users when appropriate.
  • Follow change management, incident management, access control, and security best practices to support stable and compliant operations.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience supporting modern enterprise infrastructure environments, including the following technologies and capabilities:

  • Enterprise routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, ACLs, BGP, IPsec, QoS, wireless networking, and secure remote access.
  • Firewall administration, network segmentation, zero-trust concepts, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, and security monitoring.
  • Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, certificate services, identity management, and Microsoft 365 or related collaboration platforms.
  • Virtualization and infrastructure platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, storage systems, backup, replication, and disaster recovery technologies.
  • Cloud and hybrid infrastructure concepts, including secure connectivity to platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other hosted environments.
  • Infrastructure monitoring, logging, alerting, capacity planning, patch management, and systems lifecycle management.
  • Automation or scripting experience using tools such as PowerShell, Python, command-line utilities, APIs, or infrastructure management platforms.
  • Industry hardware and software platforms such as Cisco, WatchGuard, Dell, HP, Lenovo, VMware, Microsoft, and comparable enterprise technologies.

Must maintain a security-first mindset and consistently follow company policies, compliance requirements, documentation standards, and operational best practices.

Must be able to work independently and collaboratively to resolve complex technical issues, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences, and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Must demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills, sound judgment, proactive ownership, attention to detail, and the ability to recommend practical improvements that strengthen reliability, security, and service quality.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on technical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in an enterprise infrastructure, network engineering, systems administration, or similar technical role.

Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network+, Security+, Microsoft, VMware, Azure, AWS, or equivalent professional certifications are preferred but not required.

Physical Factors/Environment:

Must be able to sit for long periods of time.

Must be able to lift objects 25-30 pounds or less.

Must be able to work odd/off-shift hours, including very late at night and/or weekends to meet company and project needs.

Must be able to work more than 40 hours per work week.
