As a Student Data Scientist, you will join the Data Science team within Data, Analytics & AI and contribute to developing, maintaining, and improving machine learning solutions used across Abacus Medicine Group. Working alongside experienced data scientists and engineers, you will gain hands-on exposure to the model lifecycle and work with predictive modelling, forecasting, AI, analytics, and real-world business problems.

Our Data Science team consists of five skilled professionals dedicated to developing innovative, data-driven solutions to core business challenges. We turn data into predictive insights and solutions that support informed decision-making and contribute to improving access to medicine across Abacus Medicine Group.

Working closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, you will gain exposure to both the technical and business sides of data science while contributing to real projects with meaningful impact across the organization.

In this role, you will work hands-on with predictive models and contribute to a range of data science initiatives, from model improvement and forecasting to experimentation with new tools and approaches.

Tasks you can expect to work on day to day include:

  • Maintaining, monitoring, and improving predictive machine learning models.
  • Supporting model retraining and evaluating model performance over time.
  • Contributing to the development and testing of forecasting models.
  • Researching and building proof-of-concepts using emerging data science methods, tools, technologies, and modelling approaches.
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of technical infrastructure supporting data science solutions.
  • Using AI tools to accelerate coding, analysis, and day-to-day data science workflows.

Fuel for your success in the role

You are currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, and you are motivated to work with predictive modelling, forecasting, analytics, and data-driven decision-making in a real business environment.

We imagine that you:

  • Have intermediate-level Python programming skills and can write structured, readable code.
  • Have hands-on experience with classical machine learning for tabular data, for example using scikit-learn.
  • Are comfortable working with structured data using pandas and SQL, including data preparation, transformation, exploratory analysis, and feature development.
  • Understand core machine learning concepts, including model training, validation, performance evaluation, and overfitting.
  • Have some familiarity with, or are interested in learning, Git, web APIs, and basic Linux command-line tools.
  • Have an interest in applied AI, including prompt engineering and using AI tools to support coding and data science workflows.
  • Can communicate analytical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Can work independently on defined tasks while proactively seeking input and feedback when needed.
