The Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Extra Low Voltage Engineer to take a lead role in the commissioning and validation of Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems across major data centre projects.
You will be responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering Level 2 through Level 5 commissioning activities, with particular emphasis on Level 4 functional performance testing and Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
As a senior member of the commissioning team, you will provide technical leadership, oversee testing activities, review commissioning documentation and work closely with clients, contractors, vendors and multidisciplinary engineering teams to drive systems through to successful acceptance and handover.

Key Responsibilities
L2 – Installation Verification & Readiness
- Lead verification of ELV installation readiness against approved designs, specifications and commissioning requirements.
- Review installation checklists, inspection records, ITPs, Method Statements and supporting documentation.
- Identify installation deficiencies and ensure outstanding issues are resolved prior to commissioning.
- Confirm systems meet commissioning entry criteria before progression to functional testing.
L3 – Equipment & System Commissioning
- Plan, coordinate and witness commissioning of ELV equipment and individual system components.
- Verify configuration, functionality, interfaces, alarms, controls and communications.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors to resolve technical issues.
- Confirm system stability and readiness before progression to Level 4 testing.
L4 – Functional Performance Testing
- Lead and coordinate Level 4 functional performance testing of ELV systems.
- Prepare, review and technically challenge commissioning test scripts and sequences.
- Verify sequences of operation, cause-and-effect requirements, alarms, controls and system responses.
- Coordinate testing activities across vendors, contractors and other commissioning disciplines.
- Identify failures, defects and non-conformances during testing and drive corrective actions and retesting.
- Ensure testing is accurately documented and supported by appropriate evidence.
L5 – Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
- Lead and support Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing across ELV and associated building systems.
- Review and develop IST scripts, scenarios and system interaction requirements.
- Coordinate ELV participation in integrated testing involving electrical, mechanical, BMS and life-safety systems.
- Validate system responses during normal operation, abnormal conditions and simulated failure scenarios.
- Ensure ELV interfaces and dependencies operate correctly during integrated testing.
- Support client demonstrations, witness testing and final acceptance.
Documentation & Project Delivery
- Prepare, review and approve commissioning plans, procedures, test scripts and test records.
- Maintain accurate commissioning documentation and ensure appropriate evidence is captured throughout testing.
- Manage technical issues, defects, observations and commissioning punch-list items through to closure.
- Review vendor and contractor commissioning submissions for technical completeness.
- Produce commissioning progress updates and technical reports.
- Support final commissioning reports and project handover documentation.
- Attend commissioning, coordination and client meetings.
- Provide clear technical updates on system status, risks and outstanding actions.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the senior technical point of contact for ELV commissioning activities.
- Provide technical guidance and support to ELV Commissioning Engineers and other members of the project team.
- Coordinate contractors, vendors and specialist suppliers during testing activities.
- Work collaboratively with Electrical, Mechanical and BMS commissioning teams.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and project stakeholders.
- Escalate technical and programme risks where they may impact commissioning milestones or project handover.
- Promote high standards of quality, safety and commissioning best practice.
What We're Looking For
- 8-10+ years' relevant ELV engineering and commissioning experience, ideally with demonstrable senior-level responsibility.
- Strong data centre or mission-critical project experience is essential.
- Proven hands-on experience delivering L2–L5 commissioning activities.
- Strong practical experience of Level 4 functional performance testing and Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- Demonstrable experience preparing, reviewing and executing commissioning test scripts.
- Strong technical knowledge across multiple ELV systems and their interfaces with other building systems.
- Experience diagnosing system failures and coordinating corrective actions and retesting.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, cause-and-effect matrices, sequences of operation and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of commissioning documentation, testing procedures and handover requirements.
- Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to lead testing activities and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality, safety and technical excellence.
- Relevant engineering qualification, degree or recognised technical certification preferred.
