About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Senior Manager to provide strategic leadership across the Business Banking Technology portfolio to support on the various lending products across the space.

This is a senior technology leadership role responsible for engineers and vendor resources across complex technology transformation, modernization, and application delivery initiatives. The role requires a strong combination of business acumen, technology leadership, organizational management, and engineering excellence to support critical Business Banking growth and modernization objectives.

The Senior Manager will drive strategic technology direction, modern engineering practices, platform modernization, operational resilience, risk management, and delivery execution while ensuring alignment with Wells Fargo Technology strategy and enterprise architecture standards.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team or teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture and enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to meet moderate to high risk deliverables and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in technology engineering
  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of overall technology experience with a proven record of leading large technology organizations.
  • 3+ years of technology leadership experience with responsibility for multiple teams or manager-led organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex enterprise technology transformation programs.
  • Proven experience managing technology delivery, organizational leadership, financial resources, vendor oversight, and enterprise risk.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering, cloud technologies, modern application architectures, Agile delivery, security controls, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience influencing senior leaders and driving strategy across highly matrixed organizations.
  • Experience managing engineering managers and multi-team delivery organizations.
  • Strong Business Banking, Commercial Lending, SBA, or Financial Services technology experience.

Technology & Portfolio Leadership

  • Provide leadership across multiple Business Banking technology domains, including lending platforms, nCino, Salesforce, data capabilities.
  • Lead technology strategy, roadmap execution, modernization planning, and platform transformation initiatives.
  • Drive alignment with Banking Platform Architecture, enterprise data strategy, security standards, and target-state technology architecture.
  • Serve as the senior technology representative for cross-functional planning, operational governance, and strategic decision-making activities.
  • Provide executive-level oversight of complex technology programs involving application modernization, platform retirement, cloud adoption, vendor migrations, and operational resilience improvements.

Modernization & Transformation Leadership

  • Lead large-scale modernization initiatives supporting Business Banking strategic objectives, including:
  • Lending platform modernization• Salesforce and legacy platform retirement
  • Application rehoming and rationalization
  • Cloud readiness and migration efforts
  • Data modernization and integration initiatives
  • Vendor risk reduction and technology simplification programs
  • Drive resolution of technology roadblocks, architectural challenges, technical debt, and platform sustainability concerns.
  • Ensure delivery of scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-effective technology solutions.

People Leadership (Second-Line Leadership)

  • Lead through managers, senior engineers, architects, and technical leads across multiple delivery teams and product areas.
  • Develop leadership capability across the organization through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and organizational development.
  • Establish workforce strategy, talent plans, organizational health initiatives, and leadership succession pipelines.
  • Manage allocation of people, financial, and vendor resources across multiple technology portfolios.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.

Stakeholder & Business Partnership

  • Influence and align senior business, product, architecture, risk, operations, and technology stakeholders on technology strategy, investment priorities, modernization roadmaps, and delivery outcomes.
  • Partner with Product Managers, Product Owners, and Business Banking leaders to define technology priorities and enable business growth objectives.
  • Manage complex dependencies across Business Banking, Commercial Banking, Enterprise Technology, and external partners.
  • Interact directly with strategic vendors, service providers, and enterprise partners to manage delivery commitments and technology risk.

  • Establish engineering productivity, quality, and AI adoption metrics to measure business impact and technology outcomes.
  • Promote automation-first approaches across development, testing, deployment, operations, observability, and governance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Responsible AI principles, model governance requirements, security standards, privacy controls, and regulatory expectations.
