Overview

Thorn SDS is a UK specialist Managed Service Provide. We empower technology professionals and organisations across the Space, Defence, and Security sectors — and now, we’re growing our team with a Network Engineer who’s ready to make an impact.

This is a full-time, on-site role (5 days per week) at a secure location in Hereford. You’ll be operating at SFIA Level 3, shaping and supporting mission-critical network infrastructure in highly specialised environments. Some UK travel with overnight stays may be required.

Security Clearance

Successful applicants will be required to obtain a high level of security clearance prior to appointment. (See: Gov.UK – United Kingdom Security Vetting)

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll configure, manage and improve network environments across a wide range of technologies and responsibilities, including:

· Configuring and managing routers and switches to ensure optimal performance

· Implementing and managing routing protocols to facilitate efficient data transmission

· Designing and implementing VLAN configurations and network segmentation

· Working with network virtualisation to enhance scalability and flexibility

· Implementing and managing cloud networking solutions

· Developing automation scripts for network tasks and keeping up to date with network automation best practice

· Producing comprehensive network designs based on project requirements and industry standards

· Configuring network devices to established designs, monitoring performance, producing reports and proactively implementing improvements

· Deploying infrastructure through later delivery phases, troubleshooting implementation issues, supporting end users, contributing to PI planning and collaborating across teams, and enabling or guiding others to achieve results

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience as a Network Engineer.
  • Strong skills in Networking Protocols, Routing and Switching, Network Security, Network Monitoring and Management, Network Virtualization, Cloud Networking, and Network Automation.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyse complex network issues.
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry trends.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
