Full description

SRT Marine Systems plc (SRT) is a market leader in the domain of international marine surveillance technology and systems. We are a respected, established, and an ambitious multi-national company headquartered in the UK with a global customer base.

The company has a worldwide impact in the marine sector by leading the next generation of maritime domain awareness technologies “MDA”, products, and systems that significantly enhance security, safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. Our customers are global and range from the largest national coast guards to individual vessel owners.

SRT is an exciting company where high-quality results are rewarded. We are ambitious and constantly seek to innovate in order to deliver better products and services to our customers. We strive to make SRT a rewarding and challenging place to work, where talented, hard-working individuals have the opportunity to make a real impact across the marine industry.

This is an exciting opportunity for a UX Designer to improve how users understand, investigate and act within surveillance, security and operational decision-support software. The role will focus on complex, data-rich workflows involving alerts, incidents, sensor information, locations, tracking data, video and case-management activities.

This is a UX-focused role, working alongside an existing UI design team. You will define user journeys, workflow logic, information architecture and interaction models, then provide clear direction for UI designers and engineers to turn those foundations into coherent, effective product experiences. Direct user research may not always be practical; you will draw intelligently on operational subject-matter experts, product feedback, support themes, analytics and available user evidence.

*Please note – the role of UX Designer is a hybrid working role with your office being Bristol.

Key Responsibilities - UX Designer (not exhaustive):

  • Lead UX thinking for surveillance, security and operational software products.
  • Break down complex user tasks into clear journeys, decision points, workflow steps and interaction models.
  • Define information architecture, navigation, hierarchy and content structure for data-rich applications.
  • Map current and future-state workflows, service journeys and product concepts using Overflow.
  • Create wireframes and interactive prototypes in Figma to test and communicate user flows.
  • Define the functional and interaction requirements that UI designers use to create polished interfaces.
  • Work with product managers, engineers and operational subject-matter experts to clarify user needs and product requirements.
  • Design effective workflows for alerts, investigations, incidents, triage, filtering, timelines, playback and case management.
  • Identify and reduce friction, ambiguity, unnecessary steps and cognitive load in operational tasks.
  • Document UX decisions, interaction rules and acceptance criteria to support consistent implementation and iteration.

Skills & Experience - UX Designer (not exhaustive):

  • Demonstrable UX-design experience on complex B2B, operational, analytical, security, defence, public-safety, transport or similarly demanding software products.
  • Experience designing for data-heavy applications, including search, filtering, prioritisation, investigation and exception handling.
  • Strong experience translating complex processes, data and stakeholder requirements into clear user journeys and task flows.
  • Good working knowledge of Figma, Miro, Overflow, or similar tools to create wireframes, prototypes, user flows, process maps, and product journeys, and to collaborate effectively with UI designers and engineers.
  • Excellent information architecture, interaction design and workflow-design skills.
  • Ability to define UX requirements clearly enough for UI designers and engineers to execute with confidence.
  • Ability to make sound UX decisions from available evidence when regular direct user research is constrained.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to align product, technical and operational stakeholders around a shared user experience.

Desirable but not essential in the role of UX Designer

  • Experience with geospatial, mapping, tracking, visual-analytics or time-based data workflows.
  • Familiarity with secure systems, permissions, audit trails and sensitive-data considerations.

Benefits Package

  • Excellent salary and package
  • Private health care
  • Career Development opportunities
