Role Purpose

McKinnon is seeking an experienced and influential Senior Manager, Public Sector Delivery to join our Public Sector team. This role is an exciting opportunity to work directly with governments across Australia to strengthen delivery mechanisms, support capability development, improve outcomes, and support the achievement of meaningful public impact.

As a senior leader within McKinnon, you will provide practical, strategic advice to governments on delivery and benefits realisation, helping public sector organisations translate policy and priorities into measurable outcomes for citizens. You will lead the provision of practical supports through government engagements, build enduring partnerships across the public sector, and shape McKinnon's growing delivery practice.

What you’ll do

  • Lead Public Sector Delivery Initiatives: Design, lead and deliver strategic advisory engagements with governments focused on delivery capability, implementation effectiveness and benefits realisation.
  • Build Government Partnerships: Establish and maintain trusted relationships with senior public servants, political leaders and other key stakeholders across Australian governments to support impactful reform and delivery outcomes.
  • Shape McKinnon's Delivery Practice: Contribute to the strategic direction and growth of McKinnon's public sector delivery offering, identifying opportunities to increase influence and impact across jurisdictions.
  • Develop and Grow Programs: Design and implement new initiatives that support McKinnon's Public Sector strategy and complement the organisation's broader focus areas.
  • Manage Programs and Operations: Oversee project delivery, budgets, resources, risk management, partnerships and evaluations to ensure high-quality outcomes and accountability.
  • Develop Delivery Insights and Advice: Analyse delivery challenges, monitor progress against priorities, identify risks, and develop practical recommendations to improve implementation outcomes.
  • Produce High-Quality Communications: Prepare executive briefings, reports, proposals, Board papers and strategic advice that inform decision-making and strengthen stakeholder engagement.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Educational Background: Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Professional Experience: Significant experience supporting or leading public sector delivery with a preference for experience leading a Delivery Unit, implementation, centre of government functions, management consulting or related fields. Experience working at senior levels with governments, public servants or political leaders will be highly regarded.
  • Leadership Capability: Demonstrated success leading complex projects, programs or strategic initiatives, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive outcomes.
  • Public Sector Expertise: Strong understanding of public sector institutions, government priorities and the challenges associated with policy implementation and reform.
  • Partnership and Stakeholder Skills: Proven ability to build trusted relationships, influence diverse stakeholders and represent an organisation with credibility and professionalism.
  • Delivery and Program Management Skills: Strong capability in translating strategy into action, managing competing priorities and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Personal Attributes: Alignment with McKinnon's values of being humble, curious, courageous and making it matter. A collaborative, adaptable and outcomes-focused professional with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
