Full description

Are you excited about tackling some of the most interesting problems in security at one of the largest technology companies in the world? Would you like to design and build systems that help protect Amazon's customers, businesses, and builders? If you enjoy working on ambiguous, high-impact problems alongside a small group of senior engineers, scientists, and security experts, our team is a great place to do the best work of your career.

Amazon Security is responsible for raising the security bar across a broad and diverse set of businesses, from retail to devices to AWS. Our team sits at the intersection of software engineering, security, and applied machine learning, and we build the services and tooling that enable Amazon to operate securely at global scale. The problems we work on span distributed systems on AWS, large data platforms, and modern developer experiences, and the systems we build are used by engineering teams across the company every day.

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer II who is passionate about building well-architected services and who wants to grow into an engineering leader. You will own significant components end to end, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations. You will work closely with senior engineers and security specialists to make thoughtful technical decisions, invest in the long-term health of our systems, and help set the engineering standards for the team. Your work will directly influence how Amazon builds and operates its software, and you will have regular opportunities to represent an enterprise customer's perspective back to AWS service teams.

The successful candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with sound judgment, clear written and verbal communication, and a genuine curiosity about the security domain. They are self-driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and enjoy collaborating with a diverse group of talented peers. Prior security experience is welcomed but not required. What matters most is a track record of delivering high-quality software, a strong sense of ownership, and the desire to keep learning. If that sounds like you, we would love to meet you.

Key job responsibilities - Design and build well-architected services and tools that raise the security bar for engineering teams across Amazon. - Use your problem-solving skills to work through ambiguous, high-impact problems in collaboration with engineers, applied scientists, and security specialists, applying Amazon's principles of thinking big, inventing, and simplifying. - Deliver end-to-end features that combine cloud back-end services on AWS, data pipelines, and modern developer-facing experiences. - Partner with teams across Amazon to integrate our capabilities into the tools, workflows, and services that builders already use every day, so security guidance meets developers where they are. - Bring strong engineering judgment, clear communication, and a sense of ownership to challenging and ambiguous problems, and drive them to a high-quality outcome in a fast-paced environment. - Provide guidance to and mentor other engineers on the team, and help grow the technical skills and security intuition of the people around you. - Own the quality bar for your area, including thoughtful design reviews, robust automated testing, healthy code coverage, and reliable CI/CD pipelines. - Participate in the operational excellence of the services you build, including monitoring, on-call, and continuous improvement based on real production learnings.

A day in the life As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you will create software designs and implementation for medium-to-large scale projects across security and compliance engineering . You will work directly with creative, product management and program management to understand and define requirements and apply your technical expertise to solve difficult software problems in a fast-paced environment. You'll design and build software and systems for novel customer experiences, AWS services, and large-scale back-end web services, all with the goal of delivering a seamless experience to the customer.

About the team The Security & Compliance Engineering (SCE) team team builds innovative solutions that elevate security standards and streamline compliance across Amazon. We develop state-of-the-art platforms and tools that enable secure-by-default development, automate security assurance, provide data-driven risk insights, and detect fraud earlier in the attack lifecycle. By partnering closely with security teams and builders, we transform manual processes into automated, scalable solutions that protect Amazon's customers and business.
