Full description

The Gresham Pulse Data Services team sits at the heart of our data acquisition capability, connecting to more than 4,500 unique data feeds from over 1,500 global financial sources. Pulse Data Services improves data quality and access, and enables easier integration with client applications such as accounting software, order management systems, data warehouses and other third-party vendor systems. As a key member of the data acquisition team, you will build and maintain the applications that perform the retrievals from those data sources and deliver that data into the service pipeline for eventual delivery to the client.

Reliable, accurate data acquisition is the foundation that all of Gresham’s downstream reconciliation, control and reporting services depend on. Financial institutions trust us to retrieve and deliver data from thousands of sources without error or delay, so the quality of this acquisition layer directly shapes client confidence, regulatory assurance and the integrity of every product built on top of it. This is a hands-on engineering role at the centre of that mission, working closely with both the Pulse Data Development team and the Pulse Data Managed Services team to keep the pipeline running, improving and scaling.

Key Responsibilities• Automate the accurate and timely retrieval of data from a wide variety of financial services sources, using and extending your knowledge of common internet protocols.

  • Work with the Pulse Data Development team and the Pulse Data Managed Services team to build and extend existing processes and workflows, improving the performance, maintainability and accuracy of our operation.
  • Excel in fault-finding, analysis and investigation — data is a messy game, and you’ll need to enjoy getting into the detail to solve it.
  • Work directly with data providers on production issue resolution and environment upgrades.
  • Collaborate with the Pulse Data Development team on your project to support their efforts in designing, building, testing and deploying system enhancements.
  • Partner with Pulse Data Service teams to identify and solve product bugs, recommend new feature development, and translate business user enhancement requests into technical solutions.
  • Think creatively, own problems, seek solutions, and communicate and document your work clearly along the way.
  • Contribute to a collaborative environment deeply rooted in learning, teaching and transparency.

Essential Skills & Experience• Developing solutions in Perl.

  • Extensive years’ professional Perl development experience in production environments.
  • Experience with object-oriented Perl, CPAN modules, and writing clean, maintainable, testable code.
  • Proficiency with AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code or equivalent) is required.
  • Candidates need to be comfortable using AI-assisted development tools as part of their daily workflow.

Familiar with:• DOM

  • Linux: file handling and basic system commands
  • Standard protocols, e.g. SSH, HTTPS, IMAP, POP3
  • SQL, e.g. Postgres
  • Source control, e.g. Git
  • CI/CD
  • Automated testing

Desirable Skills• Experience with Selenium WebDriver or other web automation software.

  • Skills in Java, Ruby or Python (or a willingness to learn) — candidates with these skills will have the opportunity to contribute to additional projects within the team.
