Job Description: L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Specialist, Technical Writer with strong technical-writing expertise and broad project-management knowledge. The successful candidate will plan, develop, and deliver technical documentation—including operations and maintenance manuals, user guides, and instructional materials—for print, multimedia, and web-based publication.

This role requires the ability to manage complex projects or processes with general oversight; collaborate and communicate across functional boundaries to gain cooperation on operational processes, practices, and procedures; and maintain exceptional organization, attention to detail, and focus while completing complex assignments.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including development teams, product managers, and subject matter experts—to gather information and understand complex technical concepts.
  • Develop, organize, and deliver technical information, including user guides, training materials, installation manuals, and procedures, for technical and non-technical users in structured-markup and unstructured Word environments.
  • Interpret technical drawings and convert technical information into clear, accurate, easy-to-follow procedures.
  • Communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and accurately; ask effective questions to confirm technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify and resolve documentation gaps through independent research, stakeholder interviews, and hands-on exploration of equipment and systems.
  • Develop a practical understanding of the technologies and products being documented; learn new technologies quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Review documentation for style, design, layout, technical accuracy, completeness, and editorial quality.
  • Establish and maintain measurable documentation standards across the technical-writing team to promote accuracy, clarity, consistency, and quality.
  • Ensure adherence to documentation best practices and approved style guides, maintaining a consistent tone, structure, and format across all deliverables.
  • Manage assigned tasks, priorities, and information flow using collaboration and project-management tools, such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Proactively coordinate with development teams to ensure documentation is updated promptly to reflect equipment changes, enhancements, and revisions.
  • Stay current with technical-documentation standards, tools, and industry trends; recommend process improvements and new approaches that enhance documentation quality and efficiency.
  • Use advanced Excel capabilities—including formulas, functions, VBA, and macros—to support documentation tracking, analysis, reporting, or process automation, as required.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage complex projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience
  • Active TS/SCI with CI Poly

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Comfortable with creating documentation in Dreamweaver, Confluence, FrameMaker, etc.
  • Experience working with the Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence, etc.)
  • Experience creating companion information such as illustrations using photography or illustration software (Photoshop) or flowcharts/graphs using Visio
  • Experience in training curriculum development
  • Understanding of Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
