Database Administrator

Provide administration, maintenance, monitoring, and support for enterprise Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server database environments. Perform database installation, configuration, health monitoring, backup validation, troubleshooting, patching, and performance optimization while ensuring the availability, integrity, and security of mission-critical systems supporting federal customers.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Database Administrator: $110,000–$120,000

Pay commensurate with experience.

Database Administrator Responsibilities Include:

  • Administer Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
  • Provide user problem documentation including problem definition, resolution, and reporting.
  • Recommend improvements to training documentation, user guides, and support processes.
  • Submit progressively developed documentation on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Complete daily database health checks in accordance with documented operating guides.
  • Verify and validate successful database backups.
  • Provide proactive monitoring of assigned datacenter resources.
  • Support scheduled after-hours maintenance activities.
  • Identify root causes of database issues and develop solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Plan, coordinate, and successfully execute assigned Release Notices (RNs).
  • Perform authorized work including standing up new servers and databases, database upgrades, patch maintenance, and application releases.
  • Serve as queue manager when assigned by monitoring incoming tickets and distributing workload.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and provide status updates on assigned work.
  • Provide orientation and mentoring to new database team members.
  • Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure maintenance activities.
  • Develop documentation for repetitive Oracle database administration tasks.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Database Administrator Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Strong to expert knowledge of Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server database administration.
  • Industry experience developing, deploying, and supporting database systems in mid- to large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Experience throughout the complete project lifecycle including design, development, implementation, and documentation.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Systems Management (ESM), configuration management, and electronic software distribution (ESD).
  • Understanding of enterprise scalability, economies of scale, and total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Experience with cloud technologies, TCP/IP networking, Active Directory, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Apache Tomcat, and Microsoft IIS.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and business communication skills.
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
