Trainee DevOps Engineer

The Trainee DevOps Engineer role at SKO Systems provides hands-on experience in the build, deployment, monitoring, and environment support of SKO's enterprise product suite. Trainees are aligned to a product team, where the initial focus is on understanding the product, its architecture, and its release requirements before moving on to focused work in the DevOps technology stack. The position supports the engineering team by contributing to CI/CD activities, assisting with environment support, and resolving basic issues under the guidance of senior engineers.

Ideal candidates are freshers with sound Linux and scripting fundamentals, a foundational understanding of software delivery concepts, and a strong willingness to learn. The role involves close collaboration with senior engineers, product teams, development, and QA, offering practical exposure to the full delivery lifecycle while steadily building technical proficiency and professional confidence.

Learning & Product Familiarisation

· Learn the product, its core modules, architecture, and third-party integrations.

· Understand how the product is built, released, deployed, and monitored.

· Update runbooks and technical documentation as needed.

· Participate in sprint demos and team meetings.

· Collaborate with Product Managers and development teams to understand delivery requirements.

CI/CD Pipeline Support & Deployment Execution

· Support the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).

· Execute predefined build and deployment steps and follow release checklists.

· Automate build, test, and deployment processes where possible.

· Participate in estimation and sprint planning.

· Deliver assigned tasks with support from senior team members.

· Follow configuration, versioning, and change control standards.

Monitoring, Logging & Troubleshooting

· Use monitoring and logging tools to check system health and identify alerts.

· Support first-level investigation of build failures, access issues, and environment concerns.

· Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

Environment Quality, Security & Access Governance

· Follow secure handling practices for credentials, secrets, and environment access.

· Assist with access requests and periodic access reviews under guidance.

· Support audit readiness and adherence to defined operational controls.

· Participate in peer reviews of pipeline and configuration changes.

Cloud & Infrastructure Support

· Gain exposure to Azure and AWS environments and assist with routine environment checks.

· Support container and infrastructure tasks, such as Docker basics, as directed.

· Assist with backup, capacity, and availability checks under supervision.

Cross-functional Collaboration

· Work with product managers, developers, QA, and database teams.

· Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and defect triaging.

· Troubleshoot delivery and environment issues with support from senior team members.

Technical Documentation & Agile Participation

· Document deployment steps, troubleshooting actions, and dependencies.

· Apply Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).

· Prioritise tasks, manage support tickets, and track progress.

· Maintain release notes and change logs, as needed.

Continuous Learning & Growth

· Engage in continuous learning and knowledge-sharing sessions.

· Build working knowledge of Linux, scripting, and automation practices.

· Develop awareness of MLOps concepts and emerging delivery practices.

· Seek feedback and proactively improve.

Requirements

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s Degree

Field of Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.

Required Certifications

Not required; foundational certifications in Azure, AWS, or Linux are advantageous.

Required Years and Area of Professional Experience

Fresher / 0 years; internship, academic project, or self-learning exposure in DevOps, cloud, Linux, scripting, or automation will be an added advantage.

Critical Technical Skills

Basic knowledge of Git, Linux commands, scripting concepts, CI/CD concepts, Docker basics, cloud fundamentals, and debugging concepts.

Other Requirements

Willingness to learn, adapt, and collaborate in a team environment; problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and documentation discipline.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science.

Preferred Experience

Academic projects, internship, certification, or hands-on practice in automation, deployment, scripting, or DevOps basics preferred. Exposure to Azure or AWS cloud fundamentals will be an added advantage.
