Full description
Finance & Accounting Business Systems Analyst Consultant
Our consultancy is looking for a highly motivated, business-facing Business Systems Analyst Consultant with a finance/accounting background. We're looking for peak performers who have a passion for business, a joy in solving problems, and a work ethic that doesn't rest until the job is done.
This is a business-facing analyst role, not a technical/IT support or systems administration role. The ideal candidate has personally owned business analysis work — leading requirements conversations, producing core BA deliverables, and representing the business perspective to vendors and technical teams — rather than supporting someone else's process from a technical coordination or reporting seat.
Ideal candidates would possess 5-10 years of business systems analysis experience in a finance/accounting environment, with insurance industry experience a plus. Candidates should have a strong familiarity with process flow diagramming and process standardization/improvement experience, as well as solid organizational and requirements elicitation skills.
We are looking for candidates with strong finance knowledge and a working knowledge of GAAP standards. Ideal candidates will have exceptional interpersonal, verbal communication, and presentation/storytelling skills to help facilitate elicitation and read-out sessions with the project leadership team. Candidates should have excellent relationship-building skills to build trust and facilitate shared understanding and buy-in with business process owners — including the ability to constructively push back on stakeholders or vendors when a proposed solution doesn't meet the business need. A client service focus, as well as the ability to identify opportunities for improvement, develop recommendations, and implement complex solutions in a fast-paced environment, are key.
Some of the key systems this person may be working with include VRC's Velocity or Verity Systems, Kyriba, Blackline, and the Workday Financial Management platform.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interview stakeholders from different profit centers to identify current-state finance workflows.
- Review workflows including invoicing, cash application, AR processing, AP procurement and management, monthly close and reporting, treasury management, etc.
- Lead requirements gathering and elicitation sessions and document and gain sign-off on business requirements.
- Represent business/finance stakeholders in discussions with vendors and technical teams — translating business needs, reviewing proposed solutions, and confirming solutions meet the business requirement.
- Support accounting transformations and system implementations (e.g., new GL or billing system rollouts, data conversions), including documenting process changes and coordinating testing.
- Participate in user acceptance testing and business validation: helping business users understand what to test, validating converted or reconciled data, documenting issues, and tracking them through resolution to sign-off.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting (or a closely related field); equivalent, demonstrated accounting-role experience may be considered in place of a degree. CPA a plus, not required.
- 5-10 years of Business Systems Analysis experience, with clear personal ownership of BA work — not primarily an IT, technical coordination, reporting, or systems-support role.
- Strong finance knowledge and a working knowledge of GAAP standards.
- Direct, hands-on experience with multiple core accounting processes, such as AR (invoicing, cash application), AP (vendor invoices/payments), reconciliations, order-to-cash, or month-end close (journal entries, accruals, financial reporting support).
- Experience supporting accounting transformation or system implementations, with a clearly defined personal role (e.g., new GL or billing system implementation, process documentation, testing coordination, data conversion validation).
- Demonstrated experience representing business users to vendors or technical teams — clarifying business needs, translating requirements, reviewing proposed solutions, and constructively pushing back when a solution doesn't meet the business need.
- Experience with core BA deliverables: current/future-state process maps, user stories, acceptance criteria, business requirements documents (BRDs), design specs, and training materials.
- Hands-on involvement in UAT and business validation — writing or reviewing test scripts, coordinating UAT sessions, documenting defects, validating data, and helping obtain business sign-off.
- Business Systems Analysis experience in the insurance industry a plus.
- Process flow diagramming experience; MS Visio experience preferred.
- Six Sigma and process standardization/improvement experience a plus.
- Strong facilitation skills, and solid verbal and written communication skills — able to speak to specific, concrete examples rather than general or theoretical descriptions.
- Strong Word and PowerPoint skills.
- Strong Excel skills, including familiarity working with large datasets and pulling useful insights out of them.
- Strong relationship-building skills between internal customers, vendors, and employees.
- Client-facing experience.
