Engineering Manager / Team Lead | Viljandi (Preferred) or Tallinn, Estonia
About the Company
We are hiring on behalf of Sysynkt, a fast-growing SaaS company transforming finance operations through Business Process Automation.
Sysynkt develops innovative software solutions that simplify complex financial workflows, including Open Banking-powered accounting, invoice processing, supplier onboarding, e-invoicing, and ERP integrations. The company serves an international client base across the UK, Australia, and Europe, with customers including globally recognised organisations.
Following rapid growth - from just four employees in 2024 to more than twenty today - Sysynkt is entering an exciting new stage of scaling its engineering organisation and is looking for an Engineering Manager to help build the next chapter.
About the Role
This is a people leadership role first and foremost.
We're looking for an Engineering Manager / Team Lead who can provide structure, leadership, and delivery management for a growing engineering team. Rather than being responsible for architecture or leading technical design, you'll focus on enabling engineers to do their best work, improving delivery processes, and ensuring projects are executed successfully.
You'll work closely with the CEO, Lead Developer, Release Manager, and Support team, becoming the central point of coordination between engineering and the wider business.
For candidates who enjoy remaining technically involved, there is flexibility to contribute to development as a working manager, although this is not a requirement.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and mentor a growing engineering team through regular coaching, feedback, and one-to-one meetings.
- Own sprint planning, workload prioritisation, delivery tracking, and execution.
- Coordinate engineering activities and remove blockers to ensure successful project delivery.
- Improve engineering processes, documentation, and knowledge sharing to reduce key-person dependencies.
- Assign and manage Jira tasks, ensuring visibility and accountability across the team.
- Work closely with the Release Manager to coordinate releases and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate daily with the Support team to prioritise engineering issues and customer-impacting requests.
- Communicate delivery progress, timelines, risks, and team capacity to business stakeholders.
- Partner with the Lead Developer on technical planning while allowing them to own architecture and technical direction.
- Support future hiring and help scale the engineering organisation.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience leading or managing a software engineering team.
- Strong people management and coaching skills.
- Experience working in Agile environments with sprint planning and delivery management.
- Comfortable working in growing organisations where processes continue to evolve.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Technical understanding that allows you to engage confidently with engineers and understand delivery risks.
- Experience using Jira or similar project management tools.
- Fluent English.
Technical Environment
While this isn't a hands-on engineering role, familiarity with the following technologies would be beneficial:
- PHP / Laravel
- MySQL
- Docker
- Kubernetes
- Microsoft Azure (AKS)
- ERP integrations
- REST APIs
Why Join?
- Opportunity to shape the engineering culture of a rapidly growing SaaS company.
- Direct collaboration with the CEO and leadership team.
- Lead an established engineering team while helping scale future growth.
- Flexibility for candidates who wish to remain partially hands-on.
- Work on products used by international enterprise customers.
- Performance-based bonus.
- Long-term career growth as the company continues to expand.
Location
📍 Viljandi, Estonia (preferred)
Exceptional candidates based in Tallinn will also be considered.
This is an office-based position. While hybrid working may be introduced in the future, the successful candidate is expected to work primarily on-site to support collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Additional Information
- Full-time permanent position.
- Reports directly to the CEO.
- Manages a team of 7+ engineers.
- English is the working language.
- Estonian is a plus but not required.
- Candidates must already have the legal right to work in Estonia or the EU. Visa sponsorship is not available.
