Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Manual QA Tester to own quality validation across the software delivery lifecycle within a SAFe / Agile environment. You will design and execute test plans and test cases, validate acceptance criteria at the story level, coordinate User Acceptance Testing, and maintain rigorous defect management practices in Azure DevOps. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, process-driven, and comfortable operating within iteration and Program Increment (PI) cadences alongside developers, Business Analysts, and Product Owners.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze user stories, acceptance criteria, and BRDs to design comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scenarios covering functional, regression, exploratory, and edge-case coverage.
- Execute manual test cases across web applications (frontend and API layers), documenting results, evidence, and reproducibility steps with precision.
- Log, triage, and track defects in Azure DevOps Boards with clear reproduction steps, severity/priority classification, and traceability back to the originating user story or requirement.
- Partner with Business Analysts and Product Owners to confirm that delivered functionality satisfies
- Definition of Done (DoD) and Definition of Ready (DoR) standards before stories are accepted.
- Actively participate in PI Planning, Iteration Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Iteration Reviews, and
- Retrospectives, providing quality risk visibility and testing status at each stage.
- Maintain and execute regression test suites ahead of releases, and support release readiness sign-off through structured test summary reporting.
- Prepare UAT scripts, coordinate business stakeholder participation, and consolidate UAT feedback
- into actionable defect or enhancement tickets.
- Maintain requirements-to-test-case traceability matrices, test data sets, and structured test evidence in line with team and organizational QA standards.
- Identify recurring defect patterns and process gaps, proposing improvements to testing coverage,
- workflows, and team practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Manual QA Tester / Test Analyst in a professional software delivery
- environment.
- Proven experience operating within a SAFe or scaled Agile framework, with working knowledge of PI Planning, Iterations, Definition of Done/Ready, and Agile Release Train (ART) cadences.
- Expert-level proficiency with Azure DevOps (Test Plans, Boards, Queries) for test case authoring,
- execution tracking, and defect management.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, well-structured manual test cases and test scripts derived from user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and standard QA methodologies
- (functional, regression, smoke, exploratory, UAT).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to isolate, reproduce, and clearly
- document defects.
- Experience validating web applications across browsers and basic familiarity with inspecting REST API responses (e.g., via Postman) to support functional validation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with
- developers, BAs, and Product Owners. Deliverables & Process Expectations
- Test plans and test case suites aligned to each committed user story within an iteration, authored and linked in Azure DevOps prior to development completion.
- Executed test cycles with documented pass/fail results, evidence (screenshots/logs), and defect
- linkage for every iteration.
- A maintained regression suite, executed prior to each release, with a structured test summary report
- supporting go/no-go release decisions.
- Defect reports in Azure DevOps that meet team quality bar: clear steps to reproduce, expected vs.
- actual results, severity/priority, and environment details.
- UAT test scripts and a consolidated UAT sign-off report for each release requiring business validation.
- Participation record and quality input across all SAFe ceremonies (PI Planning, Iteration Planning, Reviews, Retrospectives), including risk and quality status reporting.
- Up-to-date requirements-to-test-case traceability matrix maintained throughout each Program
- Increment.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Exposure to test automation concepts or tools (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress) - hands-on automation authorship not required, but familiarity is a plus.
- Experience testing API-driven or geospatial/mapping-enabled applications.
- ISTQB certification (Foundation Level or higher) or equivalent QA certification.
- SAFe certification (e.g., SAFe Practitioner) is a plus.
- Basic SQL skills for backend/data validation (e.g., querying PostgreSQL).
- Tools & Environment: Azure DevOps (Test Plans, Boards), Postman, Microsoft Teams, Confluence (or equivalent wiki), browser developer tools.
