Technical Systems Integration, Inc. (TSI) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Williamsburg, Virginia, delivering professional, technical, and management support to the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and DoD customers across the acquisition and sustainment lifecycle.
About the Role
TSI is hiring a Technical Writer to support Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) development for Navy programs at Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD). This work involves developing and maintaining S1000D-compliant technical documentation reflecting system hardware and software changes, and coordinating with engineers and system integrators to keep documentation accurate and usable for Navy personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Update IETMs to reflect hardware and system changes, including new components and equipment configurations.
- Revise IETM content to document graphical user interfaces, workflows, and operational procedures as systems evolve.
- Develop and edit technical content for S1000D-compliant IETMs, ensuring compliance with Navy documentation standards.
- Create and maintain data modules following S1000D specifications and information architecture.
- Update technical procedures, maintenance instructions, and troubleshooting guides based on system changes.
- Utilize XML and SGML coding for electronic technical manual conversions, new developments, and updates.
- Review technical reports, manuals, and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and consistency, and edit material prepared by other writers.
- Interface with engineers, developers, and system integrators, and participate in technical reviews and Integrated Product Team sessions.
- Incorporate engineering change notifications and fleet feedback into IETM updates.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in any field.
- 3 or more years of professional experience in technical writing or technical editing.
- Experience with Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals and S1000D documentation standards.
- Experience with XML and SGML coding for electronic technical documentation.
- Experience using content management systems for technical documentation development.
- Current SECRET security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
- U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency with XML and SGML markup languages for technical documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of S1000D specification and data module development.
- Proficiency with industry-standard XML editing and content management tools.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to create clear, accurate technical content.
- Strong understanding of technical documentation standards, including MIL-STD-31000B.
- S1000D Practitioner or Specialist certification.
- XML/SGML professional certification.
- Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC).
- Content management system certification.
