Have you ever thought about what it takes to keep the world's largest store safe and compliant across hundreds of millions of transactions? What would you do to help Amazon meet regulatory obligations across dozens of jurisdictions while protecting the experience of buyers, brands, and selling partners? How would you build data systems that turn compliance from a reactive checkpoint into a proactive, intelligence-led capability?
We are seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to join our Risk and Compliance Solutions (RCS) team, where you will build the data systems that power Amazon's compliance operations. This role combines technical depth with business acumen to transform complex data into actionable insights. You will work with a wide range of data technologies (e.g., Amazon Redshift, AWS Lambda, and Amazon QuickSight), contribute to data modeling and design decisions, and stay current on emerging technologies, including opportunities to apply AI to automate manual reporting processes and pipelines.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, automated, user-friendly datasets, reports, and dashboards that support our analytical and business needs
- Write complex SQL queries for ad hoc requests, deep dives, and recurring reporting
- Implement and support key datasets that give stakeholders structured and timely access to actionable business information
- Gather requirements directly from stakeholders and own automated end-to-end reporting solutions
- Partner with analysts, data engineers, and software development engineers across RCS and Amazon to deliver complete data solutions
- Simplify and automate reporting, audits, and other data-driven activities; build solutions for scale and stakeholder self-service
- Contribute to AI-driven solutions that automate manual processes and pipelines, improving operational efficiency across the organization
- Learn Amazon's broad range of data resources and know how, when, and what to use
About the team Risk and Compliance Solutions (RCS) serves as a crucial safeguard for Amazon's buyers, brands, and selling partners while ensuring business teams meet their regulatory obligations. Operating under the Three Lines of Defense (3LoD) model, RCS functions as the second line of defense, providing specialized oversight, monitoring, and expertise while setting policies and procedures that guide Amazon's compliance framework. RCS's mission is to leverage specialist industry insights and Amazon's unique approach to scale through technology, delighting customers through tailored compliance solutions. Our work spans multiple critical areas, including: - Enabling Amazon's financial services expansion through streamlined license acquisition - Managing existing business risks across the organization - Delivering comprehensive governance, risk, and assurance services - Developing innovative solutions like Compliance as a Service (CaaS) - Transforming compliance operations into a proactive, intelligence-led framework
Basic Qualifications: - 2+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience - Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools - Experience with one or more industry analytics visualization tools (e.g. Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, MicroStrategy, PowerBI) and statistical methods (e.g. t-test, Chi-squared) - Experience with scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, or R)
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree, or Advanced technical degree - Knowledge of data modeling and data pipeline design - Experience with statistical analysis, co-relation analysis
