DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Technology department is a strategic partner with BCI’s business areas. It enables investment processes and business activities that contribute to the achievement of BCI’s mission and long-term goals. The department creates the digital capabilities that support and enable BCI to innovate, modernize service and product offerings guided by best practices, and drive a digitally empowered workplace through new collaboration and productivity ecosystems. The department is also responsible for providing the foundational infrastructure, systems, business applications, and advanced technologies for the front, middle, and back office.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Investment Technology and Data and Analytics team within Technology department are looking for 4 individuals to work under supervision to conduct requirements gathering, design and build solutions, and perform analysis across software, automation, data, and analytics on low-to-medium complexity projects. Successful candidates would work on one or more of the following areas:

  • Software Engineering: Software design, creating, testing, and debugging code under the guidance of senior team members, building, maintaining, and deploying applications
  • Data & Analytics Engineering: Working across data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and platform tools (e.g., Power BI, Databricks, SQL, Python), bridging the gap between raw data systems and the dashboards or insights business stakeholders rely on
  • AI Engineering: AI agents and agentic workflows, and interactive applications using tools like Claude, Claude Cowork, Claude Code, Genie, and other department specific tools.

THE IDEAL STUDENT

  • Has a keen interest in investment technology, data and AI tools and is a self-starter
  • Has working knowledge of major AI tools like Perplexity, Claude or Copilot
  • Demonstrates they are a team player, but can also work independently
  • Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description
  • Comes up with creative ideas to improve business processes

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail
  • Has an interest in investment technology and data, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
  • Knowledge of LLM-based tools (e.g., Claude) daily for requirements gathering, code development, quality assurance, summarization, and problem-solving
  • Familiarity using Microsoft 365 tools such as One Drive, SharePoint Online, and MS Teams would be an asset
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to learn across disciplines
  • Ability to read and write basic code scripts in SQL
  • Ability to implement and debug basic Python scripts

  • Competitive pay: $2,155.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,330.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree and $2,155.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate)
  • Travel: if coming to Victoria or Vancouver for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC or 666 Burrard Street, Vancouver BC
  • Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island or experiencing the beauty of lower mainland
  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria or Vancouver office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
